About Dr. Alex McKanna
Dr. McKanna studied biology with minors in chemical instrumental analysis and Spanish at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL. He earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science at the Dr. William Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, IL. After graduating in 2015, he completed a three-year residency in foot and ankle surgery and rearfoot/ankle reconstruction at Franciscan Health/Midwestern University.
Dr. McKanna is board qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in foot surgery and rearfoot and ankle reconstruction. He has a special interest in pediatric podiatry, focusing on lower extremity conditions in children, as well as limb salvage and trauma. He specializes in diabetic wound care and limb salvage and has been in practice since 2018.
In January 2021, Dr. McKanna received the Above and Beyond Award from AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center GlenOaks for outstanding performance, service, and dedication.

I like the doctor and the staff, all very nice. I was not prepared for the pain of the cortisone shot I received in my ankle joint. It was painful to walk out and to my car and although I know the parking lot construction is not in your control, I had to walk to the last space against the back of the lot. Very hard when you already can not walk from a cortisone shot. Wish that I thought to bring some one to pull the car up or since I was asked as I was checking out, if I was in pain when I left and said yes, that I was offered assistance. Please know, the three times I’ve been there everyone has been wonderful, I think getting the shot was not only painful but overwhelming. I will be back and again please know, I’ve had positive experiences with the doctor and the nurses.

I recently visited Dr. McKanna for help with some painful calluses on my foot, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the care I received. I was extremely nervous going into the appointment, but Dr. McKanna immediately put me at ease with his kind and patient demeanor.
He took the time to explain everything clearly, made sure I was comfortable every step of the way, and was incredibly gentle during the procedure. What I appreciated most was how he never rushed me—he really listened and made sure I felt safe and supported throughout.
