I consider myself a "people doctor" a physician who sees each patient as a multi-faceted whole person, not just a single symptom case. I listen, I ask questions, I hear what my patient's say as well as what their bodies tell me. This may take more time, but it is necessary time...to assure each patient receives the complete care she or he requires. The challenge of a difficult diagnosis inspires me. To look at everything, anything,to be ever watchful for those rare conditions, which can go undiagnosed and cause such prolonged suffering for so many. To always remember that patient's aren't just patient's they are people first. Dr. Alexandra Fingesten

Dr. Fingesten has been my primary doctor for 5+ years. She's always very attentive and I never feel rushed. Because she takes so much time and care with each patient, there is usually a wait time (note: I tend to book the latest available appointment of the day so I probably get the compounded effect of wait time). I'd suggest bringing a book and all will be fine.
Very thorough. Professional and nice. Gave explanations and feedback.
I waited about 45 minutes in the waiting room, but there was no waiting once I got to the patient room--Dr. Fingesten walked me in and got right down to business. She was nice but a bit brusque and businesslike. She listened to me and seemed to give real thought to my concerns, but that businesslike air did make everything feel a little rushed. I wish her bedside manner was a little better, but she does feel like a doctor that I can trust.
I liked her, easy to explain things to and was very helpful.
Pros: Efficient and helpful receptionist, a quick and thorough physical, and I felt confident that Dr. Fingesten was knowledgeable and capable. She listened to questions and answered thoroughly and patiently. Cons: Long wait, somewhat rough job of drawing blood for tests.
Dr. Fingesten was thorough, patient and kind. I felt well-cared for.
Very sweet and funny. Made me feel very comfortable and wanted to get to know me. Highly recommend
I waited 45 minutes for an 11:30 appt and then was told it would be an additional 30 minutes before I would be even seen by a staff member.
This was the best doctors appointment I have ever had. She is knowledgable and talks to you on a human level. I would recommend her time and time again. A true Doctor in every sense of the word.
Dr. Fingesten is great! It is so hard to find a good doctor in NY and she came recommended by a coworker so I went in for an exam. Very pleasant and thorough, what a relief! Worth the wait!
Very warm, very professional, great sense of humor.
Very personable and quick!
wonderful doctor--very professional and courteous, and showed real concern for my health. But the wait time was over an hour.
Doctor is really nice. Waiting for an hour to see her (for a 10 minute consultation) - not so nice. Wish the office had a better approximation on wait time.
She was great. Funny, to the point, knowledgeable, I liked her and would see her again as my GP.
Dr. Fingesten is my favorite GP. She is brainy, attentive, experienced, curious, and thoughtful. Her old school, hands on, approach to everyday medical problems is comforting and well worth the occasional extra 20 minutes in the waiting room.
Love her, feel comfortable talking about anything. Efficient and thorough!
She was great - excellent care/service! Would highly recommend!
Sometimes you have to wait a little longer than you would like, however, I dont mind. I would rather know that the doctor is sought after and busy than being able to get an appointment next day because they aren't great. Once you are in her office she makes you feel comfortable and is very knowledgeable.
Dr. Fingesten is so good that I never mind the wait!
Dr. Fingesten has been my Primary for the last 5 or 6 years. She's thorough and caring. I feel like I've found a small-town doctor in this crazy city. It takes a few visits to establish a great relationship but I wouldn't go anywhere else!
I waited an hour and a half for the doctor. And then when I was finally put into a waiting room, she came in and thought I was another patient and then said something like, "Oh shoot um okay, let's switch rooms." And apologized to the correct patient. She knew how long I had waited, and that I had to be somewhere in half an hour, so she rushed through the appointment. I appreciate her going quickly but she didn't even ask my name. Felt very clinical and cold. I got my blood work and whatever else one needs for a regular physical so she got the job done. But I will not be returning or making her my primary care doctor.
Excellent. Will be back!
I love this doctor, she is very personable and knows her stuff! Easy to talk to, no rush, and listens! Highly recommended!
Very compassionate, understanding and intelligent doctor. She did not talk down to me and she treated me like an equal. I have a high amount of anxiety so it's been difficult finding a doctor that makes me feel comfortable. I'm very satisfied with Dr. Fingesten, she was very nice.
I was already ready to leave after having to wait more than an hour and a half, but to add insult to injury there was no apology from anyone about the wait. But my real problem was the way the doctor delivered bad news. She was overly fatalist and dramatic, not comforting, and then never followed up. When I told other doctors about my experience, they said it was atypical. Never could recommend her.
Doctor Fingesten is GREAT. She is always very concerned about the health and well being of her patients. She has a wonder team and her assistant Jamie is best. I have been with her for about 2 years now. I'm very pleased with her as my PCP and have recommended her to others.
always a pleasure. she is professional, extremely competent and personable and takes care of all my primary physician needs.
How refreshing to meet with a doctor in a great mood! Really liked Dr. Fingesten….highly recommend
My first appointment I waited over 2 hours before I was seen, and then I waited another 30 minutes in the room before I actually met with the doctor. Since then, I have had two follow up appointments where the waits were equally long, and I have received 4 bills for services that were not provided to me. I will be filing a dispute against these claims as both my appointments lasted all of ten minutes. Will not be going back.
Dr. Fingesten is a competent physician. Too bad that wait time to see her is SO long. Each time I went for a check-up or for an illness, my wait got longer and longer...and longer. Once inside the examining room, it's another long wait before Dr. Fingesten comes in - usually flustered - to look you over! The examinations are usually fairly quick. The staff isn't too friendly (except for the receptionist). Also, the waiting room is very dark and extremely HOT (you'll sweat even with the air conditioning on).
Lovely, spent a lot of personal time with me, and discussed every little complaint I had. I waited less than 10 minutes, but was expecting a lot more (maybe that's because I was 10 minutes late myself)! She was wonderful and I felt really listened to.
Cool doctor, very long wait however.
it was worth the wait. others in the waiting area felt the same. No one complained. This Dr will go the extra mile!!
Excellent. I would add another star if I could. I came in with a health concern, and Dr. Fingesten took a thorough history so that she could narrow down the possible causes. She is thorough and gets right to the point. The wait is a little long, but it's definitely worth it. I am choosing her as my new primary doctor.
Dr. Fingesten was very attentive and definitely tried to address all the issues I raised. I could tell she was very busy, but despite that I felt she gave me the time and full attention I needed.
It was worth the waiting time. Next time I will bring my book and earphones. She is very understanding, listened carefully. I loved that she did not pushed pills, she was open to natural healing.
very professional, answered all my questions, took the time to get to know me and my medical history. She did the history and all procedures (not a nurse) which is a wonderful way to get to know patients. Very glad I found her!
Dr. Fingesten was great.
Dr. Fingesten is a wonderful doctor and I like her as a doctor, but take a book. You'll wait to see her.
I went in to see the doctor with an extremely high fever and could barely sit up. I waited for awhile but once she was able to see me she was very concerned and caring.
Great service from Dr Fingersten- really liked her advise and no nonsense attitude. She was extremely helpful and listened to me queries very professionally. The wait time was rather long though that is my only criticism. I had to wait over 30 mins just to be seen...
A lovely and caring professional. I was very happy to find this doctor. Highly recommended.
Dr. Fingesten was very friendly and took time to answer all of my questions. She seemed genuinely interested in me as a patient.
A little brusque and judgmental.
She was judgmental (because of my age apparently) and rude. She was not friendly or understanding and was not encouraging of an questions.
She seemed knowledgable and interested but the LONG wait made the appointment very rushed, when my turn finally came. The receptionist recommended calling ahead of the appointment time and checking if they're running behind (must happen often).
It felt so good to be with a doctor that truly cares.
Dr. Fingesten was very friendly and knowledgeable. She listened to what I told her and thoroughly answered all of my questions. She was running behind, but it didn't bother me too much because she treated me so well in the appointment.
Dr. Fingesten's style is definitely no nonsense--she gives it to you straight. I found her thorough and knowledgeable, and would definitely be comfortable seeing her again. She seemed a little distracted at one point when I was explaining about the OTC meds I'd been trying, but looking back that's probably because she'd already diagnosed me in her mind and knew that the OTC stuff wasn't helping anyway. She also seemed to get a little frustrated when talking on the phone I think to a lab, but she didn't carry this frustration over to me and it didn't really affect me one way or the other.
I'm sure she is a great doctor, though apparently she's always horribly behind schedule. As a new patient, I waited almost 2 hours before asking for a refund on my co-pay and leaving. I wasn't even asked whether I wanted to reschedule my appointment; it's as if the receptionist knew I'd made the right choice by getting out of there.
Based on reading other reviews, I had an unusual experience because I was seen immediately. I literally waited for about 3 minutes in the waiting room and 2 minutes in the exam room.
Got to my appointment 15 minutes early to fill out paper work. I was taken to exam room right on time, but then I waited for 50 minutes for the doctor to arrive. Despite the wait, I would still highly recommend Dr. Fingesten. She was very nice, professional, and made me feel at ease.
