Dr. Alexandra Spessot, MD

Psychiatrist
880 M.L.K. Jr Blvd, Chapel Hill, NC
In addition to being a physician, I’m also a colleague, a mother, a spouse, and a daughter. I’m both a teacher and a lifelong student, and I bring those perspectives into my clinical work. I completed my undergraduate education at Johns Hopkins University and earned my medical degree from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. I then completed my residency in general psychiatry at Duke University School of Medicine. Before coming to Advaita Integrated Medicine, I spent time in both federal and community health organizations, including leadership roles across diverse care settings. I take an individualized, whole-person approach to care. Treatment may include medication management, psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, or other evidence-based options depending on your needs and goals. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety disorders, OCD, tic disorders and body-focused repetitive behaviors, depression, and bipolar disorder. My approach considers the broader context of your life, including physical health, nutrition, daily habits, relationships, and work environment. I offer evidence-based treatments such as psychotropic medications, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Inference-Based CBT for OCD, and nutritional interventions. I’m also trained in the therapeutic use of the ketogenic diet in mental health and have a particular interest in metabolic psychiatry. I’m committed to expanding access to high-quality, thoughtful mental health care while keeping collaboration and respect at the center of the process. I see the doctor-patient relationship as a true partnership. I offer recommendations based on my training and experience, and you decide how we move forward. My goal is to help you reconnect with a more grounded and capable version of yourself and move toward meaningful change.
