What should a new client know about working with you?

Dr. Ali's approach to treatment starts from understanding one's symptoms as part and in relation to one's whole personality and the life one lives. Dr. Ali treats by understanding the person, prescribing medications carefully and cautiously when needed. As a trained psychoanalyst, Dr. Ali also treats patients through psychotherapy alone if needed. Simply put, this process is understanding one's current struggles in relation to one's past and internal world. Psychotherapy is known to help individuals break old patterns of relating and form new viable ways of relating.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our initial meeting I listen to my patients carefully to understand their struggles and symptoms. While I do prescribe medications, I do them carefully and in a way that minimizes potential harm and side-effects. Based on decades of research findings and my personal experience in practice, I do believe medications work best when prescribed judiciously and with careful understanding of the individual's emotional struggles. In therapy I listen actively and attentively. My goal in therapy is always collaborative and to help the patient find their own voice, but always in context of their real life circumstances.
