Getting to know Dr. Alyssa Palmer

I specialize in providing evidence-based treatments for toddlers, preschoolers, children, teens, families, and perinatal individuals who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD, and behavior problems. I am particularly passionate about helping children and families heal from stressful life experiences. When working with children, I aim to strengthen family relationships and identify strategies to improve whole family functioning and wellbeing. I am also passionate about working with perinatal adult populations experiencing peripartum depression, anxiety, OCD, and processing traumatic births. I have extensive experience working with clients from diverse, multicultural backgrounds and strive to cultivate a collaborative, nonjudgmental, and individualized approach to therapy that is grounded in evidence-based treatments while adjusting strategies to meet an individual's or family's needs. My therapeutic approach is informed by attachment theory and is thus based on creating trusting relationships and being person-centered. I enjoy helping clients face their challenges, heal from past trauma, and develop confidence and compassion for themselves. I enjoy working with children of all ages, including very young children, and often incorporate parents into sessions. I have training in modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Coping Cat, Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Exposure Response Prevention, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), DIR/Floor Time, Incredible Years, Families Overcoming Under Stress, and Circle of Security. I work collaboratively with each client to identify treatment goals and develop a personalized treatment plan to make meaningful changes in their life. I earned my PhD in Child Psychology from the University of Minnesota and completed an internship in Clinical Psychology at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

More information on payments and coverage

We are in-network with ComPsych and Lyra and out-of-network and private pay with other insurances. Our fee varies by provider. I charge $350 for a 50 minute session and I have multiple supervised providers working with me: Dr. Giselle Gomez and Dr. Ana Hauser who charge $250/session. I also have two excellent Psychology Externs (David Cenkner and Tiffany Tao) who charges $125/session but are able to side as low as $40 pending financial need and availability within the clinic. We provide Superbills to help patients with reimbursement from their insurance. Most PPO insurances reimburse 40-80% of the fee, however, this varies by insurance, and we encourage individuals to confirm with their providers. Please check with your insurance company to inquire into possible out-of-network benefits and rates for reimbursement. COPE providers can provide a monthly statement documenting services received that can be used for possible reimbursement from your insurance company and/or healthcare spending accounts. Some questions that may be helpful to ask your insurance company: Do I have mental health benefits? Do I have out-of-network benefits? If so, what are the benefits? How would I obtain reimbursement for an out-of-network provider? How many sessions will be covered per calendar year? What is my deductible and has it been met?
