Dr. Amanda Wright, MD

Dr. Amanda Wright, MD

Psychiatrist
NY
"I am an ABPN board-certified General Psychiatrist who has been in practice for over a decade. I am a graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where I completed my Psychiatric Internship and Residency training in 2013. My practice offers in-depth evaluation for new patients, personalized medication management, and supportive and motivational therapy woven into each follow-up visit. I’m a psychiatrist who enjoys working with young adults through midlife as they navigate the challenges of growth, change, and well-being. My special interest is in Mind- Body Wellness which is also sometimes thought of as Lifestyle Psychiatry. This means that while I believe medication can be a valuable tool, it’s rarely the whole picture. My goal is to help people use medicine to feel well enough to also lean into the natural supports that foster lasting health, like sleep, movement, and nourishing food, social and or spiritual connection. My style is direct, conversational, and collaborative. I weave elements of therapy into every appointment, and I welcome partnering with other providers on your care team to make sure you’re supported in a way that feels whole and effective." **If you schedule an appointment, I will reach out by phone to have a brief (free) phone consultation to ensure we are a good fit prior to moving forward with the scheduled appointment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

A first appointment will include a thorough history of your past psychiatric concerns and treatment as well as a thorough assessment of your ongoing mental health needs and concerns. The first appointment will conclude with a straightforward assessment of your ongoing diagnosis(es) and feedback regarding the information you have shared and then a collaborative discussion of appropriate treatment options. Often times patients share at the end of their initial appointment that they already "feel better" just from being heard and their experience being validated. The initial appointment is also an opportunity for you, as the patient, to get to know me and my style of practice. I'm open to questions and hope to create an environment where you feel safe and able to trust the care you receive.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a Psychiatrist, my role in your care is predominantly as medication manager. As such, once you are stabilized on any given medication and dosage, we will work together on appropriate follow up schedule. Typically I see a patient for an initial evaluation appointment, follow up in 2-4 weeks, and then begin to lengthen the amount of time between appointments. A typical follow up schedule for "stable" Psychiatric patients is an appointment every 3 months. ie: you can expect to have no less than 4 appointments/year. I am available and responsive to patient messaging and if you ever want/need to be seen sooner than your scheduled appointment, I will accommodate that want/need.
