He does not just treat and prescribe, he advises, based on the challenges at hand and was able to take both a short term and long term view on medicine management to ensure quality of life. I am thrilled also that he has knowledge on women's health issues and how they interact with mental health - a rare find as many specialist hesitate to "veneer outside of their own lane". I would recommend him to anyone, especially women who face these hybrid issues!”

Dr. Suneja practices psychiatry through a collaborative, integrative, disability and healing justice-informed lens. He rejects oversimplified binaries, recognizing that healing requires embracing complexity. His training includes Columbia, Johns Hopkins, and a global mental health fellowship at UCSF. His clinical interests include anxiety, OCD, women’s reproductive mental health, climate stress, intergenerational trauma, immigrant and refugee mental health, and substance use concerns. Based in Tucson, he enjoys desert life, reading, baking, making art, and spending time with his two dogs.
Dr. Suneja provides a healing space that prioritizes each service user’s goals and lived experiences. His approach integrates psychiatric and psychotherapeutic practices with complementary, alternative, and natural therapies, as well as harm reduction. His approach is neurodivergence-, queer-, and gender-affirming as well as trauma-informed. Rejecting the binary of “mentally ill” vs. “mentally healthy,” he recognizes the mind, body, and soul’s inherent complexity.
Dr. Suneja tailors care to each service user. The first session explores goals, treatment options, and optimal meeting frequency. In many cases, visits are more frequent at the beginning of treatment and spaced out over time. He prefers visits at least every 4-6 weeks and integrates psychotherapy into all treatment plans, with many service users benefiting from ongoing deeper therapeutic work.

I have seen Dr. Suneja for the past six months and have been very impressed. During the first session, he narrowed in on a diagnosis I had only briefly considered before, but over time, I am convinced he is right. I am a mental health provider myself, so very aware of diagnostic complexities, and I was extremely impressed with how quickly he nailed the diagnosis. Dr. Suneja has also devised an excellent treatment plan, including a supplement I had never heard of before, but I have really benefitted from. He is very good about offering various options while giving me the ultimate decision on what I want to try. While our sessions have not involved traditional psychotherapy, they have gone beyond just medication management and have increased my awareness of my condition. Given my profession (and personality), I am sure I can be a challenging patient, but Dr. Suneja is up to the task! I cannot recommend him enough!

Dr. Suneja was a third attempt at trying to find a psychiatrist. I felt like Goldilocks. The first was too robotic and clinical, the second was not clinical enough and also somewhat disorganized. I left with no real plan. Dr. Suneja was the sweet spot; kind, non-dismissive, great and attentive listener and when I told him my goals for our first visit, he rose to the challenge (within reason) and was decisive and reassuring. He knows his stuff and made me feel confident in the middle of a crisis.

Amit is an incredibly smart and diligent psychiatrist. I had no clue what I was getting into prior to the appointment. I thought it was going to be a super simple and straight forward refill of my prescription. He put a ton of extra effort and work into fully treating me and understanding the full picture of my mental state/history. I have never felt so understood and taken care of in the mental health field! I’m wildly impressed and stoked I randomly found him. I’m very grateful overall!
