Getting to know Dr. Anastasia Ruiz

Dr. Ruiz is a compassionate psychiatrist specializing in adult and maternal mental health. She develops personalized treatment plans to address anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, PMDD, and perinatal conditions. Her goal is to help patients reconnect with their values and live balanced, fulfilled, and meaningful lives. Her passion for medicine began in childhood, inspired by curiosity about the mind and body. She earned an Honors Chemistry degree with magna cum laude and completed her medical training and psychiatry residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. With a strong scientific foundation, Dr. Ruiz understands the role of medications, and embraces holistic healing through connection, gratitude, and spirituality. Dr. Ruiz has experience in diverse clinical settings and has received national awards including the AWP International Fellowship and ADMSEP Innovations Award. She is dedicated to advancing maternal mental health screening and treatment through clinical care and education. Dr. Ruiz combines pharmacotherapy (medication) with psychotherapy to create individualized treatment plans. Therapy provides powerful tools to manage thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that support balanced brain chemistry. Research shows that medication helps restore this balance more quickly and effectively, especially in moderate to severe cases. Dr. Ruiz likens medication for the brain to fertilizer for a garden. Imagine your mental health as a vibrant garden—when well-nourished, it can thrive with resilience, beauty, and balance. But when symptoms like depression, anxiety, ADHD, or mood instability take hold, they act like invasive weeds, crowding out healthy growth and making it hard to enjoy the space. Medication acts like fertilizer, strengthening the garden’s natural systems so the healthy parts can reclaim their place and flourish. Just as some gardens need only seasonal care while others require more consistent tending, medication

What should a new client know about working with you?

Dr. Anastasia Ruiz practices at Talkiatry, a patient-centered, online psychiatry practice. Talkiatry providers specialize in medication management and treat a wide range of mental health conditions. They take a personalized approach to care, ensuring that treatment is rooted in a strong patient-provider relationship and a responsible, evidence-based approach to prescribing. We know that every mental health journey is unique, and we’re here to make yours feel manageable and supported at every step.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start with a comprehensive first visit, where you and your provider will discuss your goals, medical history, and what brings you to treatment. From there, you’ll work with your provider to create a care plan that feels right for you, which may include medication, therapy, or both. If your provider recommends medication, they’ll walk you through your options—our goal is always to help you make informed choices about your care. You’ll meet with your provider regularly for follow-up visits to check in, adjust your care as needed, and make sure you feel supported in your journey.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

It was great ????. No problem at all.she was super nice
Avoid at all costs! Very disappointing experience, specifically with billing. I was charged under multiple billing codes, which significantly increased the cost of the visit. This was not disclosed beforehand. I have over 20 years of experience with psychiatric care and have never been billed this way for a routine management appointment. I contacted the office to dispute the charges, and they stood by the charges without any adjustment or meaningful explanation. That response was just as concerning as the billing itself. The lack of transparency around costs and billing practices was unacceptable. While the appointment itself was uneventful, the billing experience alone is enough that I will not be returning. If you choose to see this provider, make sure you get very clear, detailed information about how your visit will be billed in advance.

Dr Ruiz is one of the best psychiatrist I have ever seen. After my first visit I had no doubt she will continue being my psych doctor. I could tell she genuinely cares for her patients. She listened and provided me feedback that made sense about my mental status. She explained things so I understood. I’m looking forward to my next visit with her.

Dr. Ruiz has been an extraordinary human being. She has helped me cope with my depression and anxiety helping me to become a better version of myself. She goes that extra mile and is always there to help and support me along the way in this new journey.
Dr. Ruiz truly listens, educates, & helps. Additionally, she is very responsive to messages between appts if needed. I never feel rushed and she WANTS the best for you, which I find rare these days. She’s phenomenal.
Dr. Ruiz is the perfect combination of knowledgeable yet approachable. She conducts research outside of our appointments to ensure she is aligned with the latest developments in evidence-based practices. She also requests past records to achieve continuity of care. Lastly, she listens, asks questions for clarity, and makes a point to collaborate on a treatment plan. All of these actions signal a provider that is truly invested not just in my care, but in their profession. I tried six psychiatrists before finding her — all ranged from mediocre to downright terrible. Trust me, take a chance and book an appointment with Dr. Ruiz. You will not be disappointed!
