Andrea Guttman, LMFT

Marriage and Family Therapist
CA
Hi! I work with adults and teens and love holding space for people where they are at and their experiences. I specialize in supporting women who find themselves overwhelmed by life's demands and struggling to prioritize their own well-being. Whether it's maintaining relationships, taking care of family, managing a career, or finding time for self-care, the pressure can be overwhelming. When every day feels like an uphill battle, it seems impossible to find time to care for yourself. I know you're tired and this isn't what you imagined for yourself. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from San Diego State University, and I love my work. I am constantly inspired by how resilient people are, even during the toughest times. I offer in-person walk-and-talk sessions to clients in San Diego County and provide virtual therapy to clients throughout California. I am certified in maternal mental health, and my specialties include anxiety, grief/loss, life transitions, and burnout. I prioritize creating safe and compassionate spaces where you can show up exactly as you are in the present moment. You don't have to face this alone.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe in therapy that is compassionate and authentic with a real connection. I work with women who are looking for a therapist that gets them and has been there. My expertise is in maternal mental health, anxiety, grief/loss, and burnout. In my sessions, I use a holistic and client-centered approach, collaborating with you and honoring your inner wisdom throughout the therapeutic process. My background in postmodern approaches such as Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Collaborative Therapy allows us to center your unique experiences and uncover new possibilities for positive change. Movement is also a big piece of my work, both throughout my in-person walk-and-talk sessions as well as my virtual sessions. I believe our emotions and experiences need space to move through us for healing to happen. I am dedicated to creating safe and compassionate spaces where you can show up exactly as you are in the present moment. Too often, struggles are faced in isolation, and I don’t want you to carry the weight alone. While I may not have lived through your experiences, I empathize deeply. Anything I ask of my clients, I am also doing or working on in my own therapy sessions. I sit where you sit, knowing I couldn’t practice as a therapist without doing my own inner work. Healing is hard but worth it, and I am here to walk this path with you. Outside of sessions… I am probably drinking coffee, spending time with my family, or moving my body outside in the sunshine. I love jet skiing, going out for sushi with friends, checking out new vegan dessert spots, singing my heart out at concerts, and dog cuddles on the couch. I’m a recovering perfectionist, love reading but struggle to start new books although once I get into it I can’t seem to put it down, looking at old photos my heart full, and when I have a hard day I love dance parties in the kitchen (Meredith Grey and Christina Yang style).

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I offer in-person Walk & Talk Outdoor Therapy, Online Therapy, and Online Parent Coaching. Walk and talk therapy is a unique approach where we have our therapy sessions outdoors while walking. Instead of sitting in an office, we take advantage of the natural environment. Walking can be really beneficial because it can help you relax, clear your mind, and feel more open to talking. It's a way to combine the benefits of movement and nature with our conversations, making therapy feel more engaging and refreshing. Online Therapy is a great option when life gets chaotic, and squeezing in traditional, in-person therapy sessions might not always be convenient. Receive therapy from the comfort of your own home with more flexibility in scheduling to fit your calendar. Whether it's during naptime, your lunch break, or whenever suits you best, you've got the flexibility to prioritize your well-being on your own terms. Online Parent Coaching is designed to address specific concerns and support you in developing effective parenting strategies outside of therapy. Improve your relationship with your child(ren), better understand their needs, and develop mindful strategies to address challenges, such as establishing boundaries, and demonstrating healthy emotional regulation.

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Initial session: $190 for 60 minutes
Ongoing session: $135-190 for 60 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork

More information on payments and coverage

If you have a PPO insurance plan, I am considered an out-of-network provider and can provide you with a monthly Super Bill statement detailed with payment records and special codes for the type of service provided. This can be submitted to request reimbursement from your insurance company and several insurance companies cover these services as out-of-network providers. I also work with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to ensure you get reimbursed. Note: Mentaya's goal is to save you time and money. It's completely optional, and as your therapist, I do not benefit in any way from your participation. Additionally, therapy is a covered service when using a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Savings Account (FSA) which is pre-taxed income and can reduce the overall cost of therapy.
