Dr. Andrew Para is an assistant professor and faculty member within the Department of Dermatology at Mount Sinai Beth Israel (MSBI). He completed his clinical training in both dermatology and internal medicine at Northwestern University as part of the Combined Medicine-Dermatology Residency Program and is board certified in both specialties.
Dr. Para’s clinical practice is focused on two areas:
1. Complex medical dermatology – this area of clinical dermatology encompasses the care of patients with complex systemic diseases with skin manifestations. Dr. Para has a particular expertise in supportive oncodermatology, which involves the management of cutaneous toxicities of cancer therapies like chemotherapy or radiation. However, his training background in both dermatology and internal medicine has built a foundation to care for a broad array of complex patients and diseases.
2. Culturally-competent care – Dr. Para strives to maintain an inclusive and non-judgmental clinical practice where sexual/gender minorities and patients of all ethnicities and skin types feel safe and comfortable seeking dermatologic care. ALL patients are welcome. Dr. Para has a specific skill set in the context of non-cis-gendered patient care and the skin changes that accompany exogenous hormone therapy.
Beyond the above two areas of emphasis, Dr. Para does practice general dermatology, which involves visits for skin cancer screening, acne, and eczema, among many other reasons. His general focus is primarily on medical and not cosmetic care.

I had a terrible experience. Because the doctor forgot to supply my notes to the insurance, I received a surprise bill with four figures for two 15-minute appointments. I called the doctor's office twice to fix the issue; twice they told me they would call me back and did not.
Then, I asked the insurance to call the doctor's office with me on the line to request these notes. The insurance sent the request to the doctor's office via fax machine, which was the only method the doctor's office would accept. Because nobody was in the office to receive the fax document on a weekday at 3 pm, the representative from the doctor's office told me I would get a call back once the issue was settled. It has been more than a week.

Just felt like he was in a rush and listed the medications and ointments I needes rapid fire and I kept confusing them. I know he knows what's up, but even the pharmacy didn't give clear directions about what stuff could be used where. I don't think he really even looked closely to confirm what I told him the diagnosis was. It just felt rushed. He genuinely seemed friendly and like a nice person, but maybe he was just overextended.

Dr. Para seemed very knowledge about my questionable-looking mole, and said immediately, this has to come off, it looks like a melanoma. He took it off and the procedure was quick and easy.
My only major complaint is that the reception team for Mt Sinai dermatology called me multiple times the day before and day of the appt and gave me a ton of misinformation about my referral letter. When I arrived at the office, a different team was there and was super helpful to figure things out, but just worth noting- the phone team answers questions they don’t know the correct answers to.
