Getting to know Dr. Ankur Upadhyay
Dr. Ankur Upadhyay is a licensed Psychiatrist. He provides psychiatric care supported by evidence based medical practices, highlighted by his experience with mindfulness based therapies and psychoanalysis. His journey started in India where he gained knowledge in spirituality and the practice of mindful living. He has since completed his Psychiatry residency training at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (Morningside-West Hospitals) in New York City, which offered a unique setting to treat patients from diverse backgrounds.
Dr. Upadhyay has also completed training in the Intensive Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy program at the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis & Psychology.
During his two-year fellowship as a Global Mental Health Fellow at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Dr. Upadhyay had the opportunity to work with underserved communities locally in NYC. He also worked as a telehealth consultant in Liberia and India during the COVID 19 pandemic. During his telehealth experiences, he was able to provide seminars on various psychiatric issues to local universities, medical schools, law schools, philosophy schools, and NGOs to increase mental health awareness in these communities in India.
Dr. Upadhyay believes in providing patient centered care through a collaborative approach. He strives to incorporate mindful and contemplative approaches into his psychiatric practice.

As someone who has been through several doctors, nurse practitioners, and therapists… I cannot begin to explain how happy I am to have found Dr. Upadhyay.
Even before our first visit- Dr. Upadhyay was incredibly attentive, with a screening phone call that lasted longer than some of my previous sessions with another psychiatrist…
When deciding upon medication, he explained what I should expect and after starting he even checked up on me when we didn’t have an appointment.
He really cares about his patients. 5 out of 5 stars… I am so glad I found him.

Cannot recommend Dr. Upadhyay highly enough. He personally called me after I made my appointment on zocdoc and talked to me for over a half hour. Told me everything to expect, and listened to my problems without the slightest bit of feeling like I was being rushed. That is pretty unheard of this day and age. He is careful, attentive, checks in often, and is the kind of doctor you hope a loved one going through a tough time ends up meeting.

I cannot recommend Dr. Upadhyay highly enough! I have seen Dr. Upadhyay for two years now, and he has provided exceptional and outstanding psychotherapy and psychiatric care for my depression. It is extremely rare to find such a helpful, professional, thorough, and kind provider. Additionally, he takes a holistic approach that considers both the mind and the body, and has experience working with patients from a variety of cultural backgrounds. I have seen phenomenal long-term improvement in the areas of distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness and mindfulness because of my ongoing sessions with Dr. Upadhyay. My family members and partner have even mentioned that they have seen a notable improvement in my mood. Dr. Upadhyay is absolutely worth the investment into your mental health care. You will not regret booking an appointment with him!
