Getting to know April Hargers
I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with twenty years of nursing experience. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Texas State University. Throughout my career, I have worked in various settings and discovered my passion for psychiatric care, specializing in child and adult inpatient care, community mental health crisis stabilization, and long-term care facilities.
My dedication to improving people's lives is deeply rooted in my family history. Both my mother and grandmother were healthcare workers and have greatly influenced my career. I am committed to developing personalized care plans, prioritizing client involvement, and ensuring that everyone's unique needs and preferences are central to their treatment. I believe in collaborating with fellow healthcare professionals and utilizing evidence-based practices for psychiatric assessment, medication management, and brief psychotherapeutic interventions. My aim for my clients is to empower them to manage their illnesses through supportive education in a stigma-free environment.
As a proud native of Austin, I enjoy spending quality time with family, watching movies, and exploring new dining experiences when I'm not fully engaged in my professional pursuits.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I love to get to know my clients, and figure out exactly what works for you. Currently I work with Therapy Unlocked, where I get to work closely with your counselor (if you are seeing one here, no pressure) and make sure you get the help you need! We can fine tune your medications and health, assess for ADHD or anything else, and help you live your best life.

The provider never showed. I am a nurse practitioner and could not fathom not showing up for my patients. Especially given this is for psychiatry and patients are in need and are depending on a provider who shows up to her appointments. I never received any message stating they were unable to show. I also drove an hour to see this prover. Very very disappointed. So unprofessional.
