Greetings folks, my name is Aquila Roberts and I am a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. I have a client-centered approach with the knowledge that we all have the tools within us, we may need some support to access them. My areas of practice include depression, anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, insomnia, and mood disorders. My approach My approach is to empower clients to find inner healing and inner strength in addition to prescribing medication for extra support. I use self-reflection, mindfulness techniques, and education relating to medications and natural supplements to manage mental health symptoms. My focus I typically work with clients struggling with depressive symptoms, anxiety concerns, trauma-related disorders, insomnia, Bipolar disorder, psychosis, and other mood disorders. My communication style I start my session with an introduction and my role. I allow clients to direct the conversation, and discuss what is most pressing and distressing to them while allowing for validation and active listening. My goal is for clients to feel heard, safe, and ready for change. My journey to mental healthcare I have worked in healthcare for 18 years and have worked in support roles for nurses in the early days of my career. I graduated as an LPN, then an RN, and went to grad school for psychiatry in CO. I remember talking to various friends/family about their mental health issues before my career choice and realized I could successfully work with others to help manage their struggling issues. I identify as a queer woman of color and helping those who also identify as a marginalized person in society drives me to continue my work.
