I started working with youth and children in an in-patient setting and have worked many other mental health roles including substance abuse counseling and crisis intervention. You will likely hear me say, “The brain is the most complex system on the planet and we are not going to go in there and start remodeling by taking out walls and doors and adding floors and windows.” I believe in a methodical and careful approach to your care. As a nurse practitioner my goal is to advocate for you. In my experience, honest communication has always been the best place to begin. I believe that medication is most successful when combined with counseling. Practicing coping skills, developing awareness, and addressing problems can enhance the potential of pharmaceutical treatment.
