Getting to know Dr. Bess Levin
Dr. Bess Levin is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in treating patients with depression, anxiety, OCD, and other mental health diagnoses using a combination of medication, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and SPRAVATO® (esketamine). She received her MD from The Ohio State University College Of Medicine where she was awarded for outstanding performance in psychiatry. She completed her residency through The University of Illinois at Chicago where she worked in a variety of outpatient settings including telehealth, IOP, assertive community treatment, collaborative care in a family medicine clinic, and child and adolescent psychiatry clinic. Her inpatient residency included University Hospital and VA, Med-Psych unit, inpatient care of pregnant patients, consultation-liaison, emergency psychiatry, and ECT.
She is trained in the management of chronic severe mental illness; treatment of patients with co-morbid substance use disorders and psychiatric illness; and treatment of pregnant and post-partum women.
Dr. Levin specializes in the evaluation and management of psychiatric medication to provide comprehensive and personalized treatment plans for patients. In addition to psychiatric assessments, evaluations and medication management, she helps link patients to adjunct treatments, including but not limited to transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), psychedelic therapy (SPRAVATO esketamine or IV ketamine) and/or talk therapy.
What should a new client know about working with you?
The first appointment will involve a review of personal history, including family dynamics, childhood experiences, relationships, and any significant life events as well as explore the reasons you sought services and the specific symptoms and challenges you are facing. Recommendations for care will be provided and together you’ll begin to develop a plan to achieve your goals and achieve symptom relief.

What is your typical process for working with clients?
Patients’ initial medication management evaluation is a crucial step towards understanding and addressing their mental health needs and typically involves a thorough assessment of their medical and psychiatric history. I will provide information about potential treatment options, including psychiatric medications, and explain the benefits, potential side effects, and risks associated with each. This discussion aims to engage the patient in the decision-making process, ensuring they actively participate in their treatment plan.
Relief Mental Health is an outpatient provider of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), psychedelic therapy (SPRAVATO® and IV Ketamine), psychiatric medication management, and talk therapy for the treatment of depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and other mental health diagnoses. While our expertise is broad, there are certain mental health conditions and diagnoses that fall outside our scope of practice. Your initial appointment will be considered an intake appointment and will not guarantee a continued patient-provider relationship.

More information on payments and coverage
If we do not receive your insurance information at least 24 hours prior to your appointment, we will collect a $100.00 deposit at the time of service and verify benefits after your appointment has taken place. This deposit will be applied towards any out-of-pocket costs for services, including copays, coinsurances, deductibles, or the full cash rate if we are out-of-network or unable to verify your insurance benefits. Once benefits are verified, any outstanding balance will be charged to the credit card on file and any overpayment can be refunded or applied to future visits. Our providers’ profiles list which insurances they accept, but patients are still encouraged to contact their insurance company for specific coverage details. Most of our providers are in-network with a variety of commercial PPO policies and Medicare, but are out-of-network with commercial HMO policies, Medicaid and other government-funded health insurance providers.

Dr. Levin was amazing. I felt completely seen, heard, and understood at my first appointment with her today. She offered insights that were spot on with my own inclinations as to what the root of my issues are. She was calm, kind, and immediately made me feel comfortable. We had a very productive session and came up with a good plan for me moving forward. I feel very happy to hanve found a great psychiatrist. I would highly recommend her!
