“I’ve struggled with treatment-resistant depression for most of my adult life and had almost given up hope of finding something that would truly help. From my very first appointment, Dr. Darmal took the time to listen, answer all of my questions, and explain TMS in a way that made me feel comfortable and hopeful. I’ve now completed 16 TMS sessions, and I’m honestly starting to feel like a different person. My mood has improved, I have more motivation, and I finally feel like I’m getting my life back. The treatment has been amazing, and I’m so grateful I decided to give it a chance. I highly recommend Dr. Darmal to anyone who has been struggling with depression and is looking for a provider who genuinely cares.”

Getting to know Dr. Borhan Darmal

As a board-certified adult psychiatrist, I believe that every patient deserves to feel heard, understood, and actively involved in their treatment. My approach is centered on building a collaborative partnership where education, compassion, and evidence-based care empower you to make informed decisions about your mental health. I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and personalized medication management for adults experiencing depression, treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, panic disorder, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, ADHD, and other mood and psychiatric conditions. Whether you are seeking care for the first time or have struggled to find relief with previous treatments, my goal is to help you identify the treatment plan that best fits your individual needs and long-term goals. Throughout my career, I have cared for patients in outpatient clinics, hospitals, emergency psychiatry, and intensive treatment programs, giving me experience treating both common and highly complex mental health conditions. I have extensive experience evaluating patients experiencing severe depression, suicidal thoughts, psychosis, and other acute psychiatric illnesses while also helping individuals achieve long-term stability through ongoing outpatient care. I have a special interest in advanced treatments for treatment-resistant depression, including neuromodulation and SPRAVATO® (esketamine) therapy. I believe that when traditional treatments have not provided adequate relief, innovative, evidence-based options can offer new hope for many patients. My commitment is to provide compassionate, respectful, and judgment-free care in a safe and welcoming environment. Together, we will develop a personalized treatment plan designed to improve your symptoms, enhance your quality of life, and help you move toward lasting mental wellness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Patients can expect a warm, respectful, and collaborative experience where they are treated as active partners in their care. I believe that understanding your diagnosis and treatment options is an important part of recovery, so I take the time to explain recommendations, answer questions, and ensure you feel comfortable with your treatment plan. My approach is evidence-based, individualized, and focused on the whole person—not just the symptoms. I begin with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation to understand your medical history, current concerns, lifestyle, and personal goals. Together, we develop a treatment plan that may include medication management, lifestyle recommendations, psychotherapy referrals when appropriate, or advanced treatment options for individuals who have not responded to traditional therapies. I care for adults experiencing depression, treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, panic attacks, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, ADHD, and other psychiatric conditions. For patients with difficult-to-treat depression, I also have experience with advanced therapies, including SPRAVATO® (esketamine), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and other neuromodulation approaches when clinically appropriate. My goal is to provide compassionate, judgment-free care where you feel heard, respected, and supported. Whether you're seeking help for the first time or looking for a fresh approach after previous treatments haven't provided enough relief, we'll work together to develop a plan that helps you achieve meaningful and lasting improvement.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation designed to understand the full picture of your mental health. We'll discuss your current symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, previous treatments, medications, lifestyle, and personal goals. I also encourage you to ask questions so we can make informed decisions together about your care. Following the evaluation, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan based on your individual needs. This may include medication management, recommendations for psychotherapy, lifestyle modifications, or advanced treatment options when clinically appropriate, such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), SPRAVATO® (esketamine), or other evidence-based interventions for treatment-resistant depression. Follow-up appointments focus on monitoring your progress, evaluating how you're responding to treatment, managing any side effects, and making thoughtful adjustments to help you achieve the best possible outcomes. While I primarily provide psychiatric evaluation and medication management, I incorporate supportive therapeutic techniques, patient education, and collaborative treatment planning into every visit. When ongoing psychotherapy would be beneficial, I work closely with therapists and other healthcare providers to ensure your care is coordinated and comprehensive. My goal is to provide thoughtful, evidence-based psychiatric care in a supportive environment where you feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout your treatment journey.

We are committed to making high-quality psychiatric care accessible and transparent. We accept most major commercial insurance plans, as well as Medicare for covered psychiatric evaluation and medication management services. Coverage and benefits vary by individual plan, so we encourage patients to verify their mental health benefits prior to their appointment. If your treatment plan includes advanced therapies such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) or SPRAVATO® (esketamine), our team will assist with determining insurance eligibility, obtaining any required prior authorizations, and discussing treatment costs before care begins. For services that are not covered by insurance, including certain specialty treatments such as intramuscular (IM) ketamine therapy, our staff will review self-pay pricing and available options with you in advance. Our goal is to ensure you understand your benefits, expected financial responsibility, and treatment options so you can focus on your mental health with confidence.
