Dr. Brandon Sklar grew up in Denver and completed his residency training in psychiatry at University of Colorado School of Medicine. He draws from his experience of caring for people using a wide variety of treatment modalities which include conventional psychiatric medications, innovative treatments such as TMS and ketamine, as well as psychotherapy. He has a passion for helping those struggling with treatment resistance and traumatic experiences. This ultimately led to an interest in psychedelic medicines. Dr. Sklar believes psychedelics hold significant promise for the alleviation of suffering in ways that other psychiatric treatments have been lacking. He currently serves on a government workgroup tasked with providing recommendations for Senate Bill 23-290 which will legalize natural medicines for clinical use in Colorado in 2025. Dr. Sklar takes a strong humanistic approach to clinical care and believes each person has their own unique story which deserves to be listened to and treated with compassion. He is guided by the principle that emotions have deep meaning, especially emotions that are unpleasant and painful. Rather than helping others avoid or eradicate these feelings, he aims to help foster deeper understanding of them which in turn can open space for the processing necessary to existing in harmony with them. He places an enormous emphasis on the relationship he builds with his patients, as he believes it is the most important component of any treatment plan. His hope is that everyone he works with can live life brimming with vitality and exist authentically. Dr. Sklar knows the importance of understanding and compassion in addressing emotions, even painful ones. He believes that building strong patient relationships is crucial to effective treatment and aspires to help his patients live vibrant, authentic lives.
