About Dr. Brian Mercer
Brian Mercer, M.D., M.S., is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in spinal surgery. He treats the full range of spinal disorders, including degenerative spine conditions, spinal cord and nerve decompression, and spinal reconstruction.
Dr. Mercer earned his Doctor of Medicine from Drexel University in Philadelphia. He completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Boston Medical Center, where he served as administrative chief resident. Following residency, he pursued a spine fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital, gaining extensive training in cutting-edge surgical techniques. These advanced approaches allow the highest level of surgical precision, improving patient outcomes and speeding recovery.
As a chief resident, he was nominated as an Emerging Leader in The American Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Mercer joined Orlin & Cohen in 2020 after completing his fellowship training.

The PA who saw me before Dr. Mercer, asked a lot of questions and did a physical assessment. She then said she would speak with the doctor before he came in. When Dr. Mercer came in, he looked over my x-rays yet did no physical examination or assessed my movement in anyway. I thought this was a bit unusual.

Dr. Mercer’s office visit was kind of strange. I was seated waiting 30 min, which is not a big deal to me. However, a man with very clear schizophrenia (I am involved in mental health) came over to me from across the room and was very obviously harassing me. Staff was indifferent and not that considerate. The xray staff was really kind and that made my visit better. Dr. Mercer ultimately gave me the prescription I needed but his bedside manner was flat. Despite this office being convenient for me, I will seek help elsewhere even if it’s further. Just a weird experience.

I've had a muscle spasm on the right side of my neck for the past year now and today I went to get it checked out by Dr. Mercer! It was super easy to book my appointment today and equally easy to understand what my follow-up would look like! I had a lot of questions and Dr Mercer responded to everything and so did every staff member I spoke with! Everyone was friendly, attentive, and helpful, and I feel like the care I received today is going to greatly alleviate my neck pain! I barely waited and the location is well-kept and aesthetically pleasing as well! I would highly recommend coming here and booking with Dr. Mercer!

Seems nice and friendly. His physician assistant did most of the work. She was pleasant, friendly, relatable, and listened well. Little disappointed the doctor himself didn’t evaluate me and neither of them actually looked at my back (PA did some mild tactile exam checking for pain areas). So… can’t complain but also not thrilled or feel like anything special happened.
