About Dr. Bruce Montella
Doctor Montella is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in spine surgery. He holds an additional board certification in interventional pain management. He specializes in diagnosing and treating injuries of the back and neck, as well as sports medicine injuries. He joined Midwest Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgical Specialists, Ltd. in 1997.
After earning his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Chicago, Dr. Montella completed his orthopedic residency at Duke University Medical Center. He then successfully completed his spine surgery fellowship training at the prestigious Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as well as a fellowship with John H. Moe Spine. Dr. Montella is an enthusiastic proponent of non-operative treatments for spine conditions and views surgery as the option of last resort. He currently serves as the Medical Director of the Midwest Center for Pain Management.
Dr. Montella also has a strong interest in sports medicine. He played football in college and was named Sports Illustrated magazine's offensive football player of the week. He had a brief playing career with the Chicago Bears and served as a team physician for Duke University's varsity football and basketball teams. He understands the importance of making the appropriate diagnosis and formulating a treatment plan that enables the injured athlete to return to competitive activity as soon as safely possible.

Waited an hour and a half to be seen after my scheduled appointment time. Spoke to the doctor for all of 5 minutes, who seemed to want to rush me out. Hard to get in touch with the office for testing follow ups, since they seem to be constantly away from their desks during normal work hours.

Appointment time was met. I didn't have to wait in the outer office.
The Doctor remembered me and my particular problem and the visit went very well. I would recommend to anyone. Also, the office staff are courteous and helpful.

After waiting for almost an hour past my appointment time, I was seen for 5 minutes and was told that the reason for my ailment was something completely different than what I explained. After explaining it yet again, I was told that I was wrong even though I knew the reason. There was absolutely zero attention given to my pain and I was told to just leave and call again in a month if it doesn't feel better. After 9 months of pain I would think that a professional would atleast give me the luxury of an examination.
