About Dr. Carmen Hurtado

I am a primary care physician and internist at Memorial Healthcare System. I care for patients with a variety of acute and chronic illnesses, including chronic hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, thyroid conditions, as well as acute viral illnesses, urinary tract infections, rashes, and more. I also specialize in women's health, providing annual well-woman exams, breast exams, and pap smears. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from George Washington University and completed my residency in Internal Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. As a primary care physician, I enjoy providing continuity of care for my patients and, in many cases, their families as well. I cherish the long-lasting relationships I have forged with my patients over the past 20 years. It's very satisfying to help patients manage and improve their health and support them in living longer, healthier lives. I believe that effective communication between a patient and their doctor is essential for building trust and helping patients successfully manage their health. I always strive to educate my patients about their conditions, treatments, and options so they can take an active role in their healthcare while feeling confident that I am always here as a resource. My family is from Peru, and I have found that my background helps me understand many cultural aspects of health in the Latino community that can sometimes prevent people from seeing a doctor or cause hesitation in receiving treatments that differ from those in their home countries. This insight is very helpful in encouraging patients to change habits that lead to poor health and in explaining why treatment of certain conditions is so important. When I'm not in the office caring for patients, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three kids.
