Carri Myers, APRN, RN, NP

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
MS
I practice a patient-centered model of mental health care. Clients are all individuals and should be treated as such. I listen to the client and help guide them in strengthening their awareness of their mental health and treating the symptoms. I do mainly medication management, but therapy is always a part of mental health. PMHNP. I use a patient-centered care model. I generally treat anxiety and depression as well as bipolar patients. I am proficient in treating a wide range of mental health disorders, including ADHD, OCD, insomnia, eating disorders, and a variety of others. I like to communicate on a personal level with my patients. I want to connect to them so they are comfortable talking with me, but also so I can learn more about them. I did not wish to go into mental health. I was attacked in nursing school by a psych pt and decided it was not for me. BUT after nursing for about 8 years, a job in mental health fell into my lap and I turned it down, but I was afraid of "those patients". A few months later, an even better job landed in my lap again. This time it was too good to pass up, so I took it. I went to work just knowing I was gonna hate it. Once I started working with mental health patients and realized they just want to be heard like everyone else, I fell in love with them. They are not scary at all, they are just often misunderstood. I then went on to specialize in mental health and became a PMHNP. I discuss the goals of treatment with patients and allow them to see the pace and importance of each goal. The first session is getting to know the patient and their situation and condition, and learning how they best respond to me.
