Getting to know Cassandra Mazzoni

Reaching out for mental health support can feel vulnerable, and I want patients to know they will be met with kindness, patience, and understanding from the very first appointment. I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner providing telehealth services for adults throughout California. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood changes, burnout, stress, and other emotional or mental health concerns through psychiatric evaluations and medication management. I can also help with emotional support animal letters, workplace accommodation forms, disability paperwork, and certain school-related documentation such as IEP or 504 support when appropriate. My approach is very personal and collaborative. I do not see patients as a list of symptoms or diagnoses — I take time to understand the person behind them. Many people come into appointments feeling anxious, overwhelmed, unsure of themselves, or worried about being judged, and I strive to create a space where patients feel comfortable enough to be honest about what they are going through. Our first visit is simply a conversation. We talk through your experiences, current struggles, past treatments, stressors, and what you would like to improve in your life. Together, we discuss options and create a plan that feels realistic and tailored to your needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. I believe patients should feel informed and involved in their care every step of the way. I also understand that starting medication or making changes to treatment can feel intimidating. I will always offer honest guidance and recommendations, but I never want patients to feel pressured into anything they are uncomfortable with. My goal is to help people feel supported, heard, and more hopeful about moving forward.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I want patients to know they do not need to have everything figured out before asking for help. Many people come into appointments feeling nervous, emotionally exhausted, discouraged from past experiences, or unsure where to even begin, and that is completely okay. My approach is calm, supportive, and collaborative. I take time to truly listen, answer questions, and help patients feel comfortable speaking openly without fear of judgment. I believe mental health care works best when patients feel safe, respected, and involved in their treatment decisions rather than rushed or pressured. I also understand that treatment looks different for everyone. Some patients are interested in medication, while others may feel hesitant or want to move slowly, and I respect that. My role is to provide guidance, education, and honest recommendations while working together to find an approach that feels manageable and appropriate for each individual.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During the first appointment, we take time to discuss what has been going on, your symptoms, stressors, medical and mental health history, previous treatment experiences, and your goals for care. Together, we create an individualized treatment plan that feels realistic, supportive, and tailored to your needs. Follow-up appointments focus on monitoring progress, checking in on how you are feeling, managing side effects if medications are used, and making adjustments when needed. Patients also have access to a safe and secure messaging system for non-urgent questions, medication concerns, or updates between appointments to help keep communication and continuity of care open and supportive.
