“Well I will tell you I have had some problems in the past getting him to refill my meds would take longer than I would think but I know he's busy and today showed me something completely different. They have a different computer system and/or software. Dr. Van Tuyl is an incredibly nice man who really cares. I have never felt like he's just trying to get me in and out as fast as possible like other psychiatrist ive visited in the past. I feel like he really truly cares about his patients and Doc is very down to earth. Easy to talk to. I was very happy with the way my telehealth appointment went today. Getting to know Dr. Charles Van Tuyl
Dr. Charles van Tuyl was born in 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He received his high school diploma from Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana in 1960. He received a B.A. in Religion Studies at Yale University in 1964 and went on to Indiana University to earn a Ph. D. in Inner Asian Studies in 1972. He then returned to Oklahoma where he taught at Bacone College until he made a career change and entered the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, where he earned the M.D degree, awarded in 1987. He did a one-year rotating internship at the City of Faith Hospital before doing residency training at Griffin Memorial Hospital in Norman. Since that time, he has practiced psychiatry in Oklahoma.
He is a practicing Christian and attempts to integrate the religious dimension – where appropriate- into his psychiatric practice. He takes a conservative approach to prescribing medicine and tries to help patients to develop healthy lifestyles.
Dr. Charles van Tuyl is married, has five surviving children, thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. He has also published several books and articles on ethnohistory and linguistics.

Dr. Van Tuyl is an excellent listener with great bedside manner. He seems to take a genuine interest in his patients, because he asks lifestyle questions and remembers things that you tell him. I've visited more than 10 Tulsa physicians in search of a new PCP since I recently moved from Dallas. After meeting Dr. Van Tuyl, I think my search has ended and I will designate him as my new primary care doctor.

I had a much better experience with this doctor than with previous doctor ( not through Zocdoc). It seemed like it was a much more organized office and system than I had previously dealt with from a competitive physician referral site. I also, felt very comfortable with this doctor and his office staff.
