Getting to know Christala Cherry

I am a dual board-certified psychiatric mental health and family nurse practitioner. I am currently licensed to practice in the state of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. I specialize in depression, anxiety, panic disorder, sleep issues, trauma-related disorders, Adhd, Autism, and mood disorders. My approach to treatment is evidence-based, including both pharmaceutical and nonpharmaceutical therapies, considering nutrition, lifestyle, spiritual, and cultural factors. I provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management when appropriate, and brief therapies utilized in treatment, including cognitive behavioral, mindfulness, person-centered, solution-focused, motivational interviewing, and health coaching in treatment approaches. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults. I have close to 29 years of total nursing experience, close to 18 of those as a nurse practitioner working in various settings, providing services to clients along the lifespan. I like to produce a personable, individualized, calm, and nonjudgmental environment. I like my patients to feel we are a team working together towards their goals. My parents both had professions helping others. My father is in law enforcement, and my mother is in social work. I grew up in communities filled with people who were in various helping professions to serve the community. By nature, I have always been a nurturer, starting with being the oldest child, then I had a curiosity in nature in general, I would observe and capture wounded animals, and care for them. I discovered I was a good listener, being told so at a younger age by peers, and then, a curiosity about professions that would fit me best, which appeared to come easily for me. Once I became a nursing student, I loved learning everything to learn about it, and I continue to learn. My patients also educate me on a variety of things. My learning never ends, and I love this!
