If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, depressed, or simply not like yourself, you're not alone — and you don’t have to navigate it by yourself. I’m Christian Serna, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and I provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and adults. I specialize in the evaluation and treatment of anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, panic attacks, insomnia, mood disorders, and stress-related conditions. Many of my patients come to me struggling with focus and concentration issues, racing thoughts, low motivation, irritability, emotional ups and downs, or difficulty sleeping. Whether you’re seeking help for the first time or looking for a provider who truly listens, my goal is to create a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space where you feel heard and understood. I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and personalized medication management, always prioritizing safety, education, and collaboration. I believe treatment works best when you fully understand your diagnosis and feel confident in the plan we create together. My approach is patient-centered, practical, and focused on long-term stability — not just temporary symptom relief. For individuals struggling with treatment-resistant depression, severe anxiety, or persistent mood symptoms, we also offer advanced treatment options including Spravato® (esketamine), IM ketamine therapy, and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) when clinically appropriate. These innovative treatments can be life-changing for patients who have not responded to traditional medications. As a bilingual provider fluent in English and Spanish, I’m proud to serve our diverse South Florida community. Taking the first step toward better mental health can feel intimidating — but it can also be empowering. I look forward to working together to help you regain clarity, stability, and a stronger sense of well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you begin working with me, you can expect a thoughtful, structured, and collaborative approach to your care. I prioritize creating a calm, supportive, and judgment-free environment where you feel safe discussing what you’re experiencing. Our first visit is comprehensive. I take time to fully understand your symptoms, personal history, stressors, medical background, and goals for treatment. I don’t believe in rushed appointments or “one-size-fits-all” solutions. Every treatment plan is individualized and based on clinical evidence, safety, and what makes sense for your lifestyle. My approach combines thorough psychiatric evaluation, clear diagnosis, and strategic medication management when appropriate. I also incorporate supportive therapy techniques and practical coping strategies that you can apply in your daily life. I place a strong emphasis on patient education — I will explain diagnoses, treatment options, benefits, and potential side effects so you feel informed and confident in the decisions we make together. If you are struggling with treatment-resistant depression or persistent symptoms, we can also discuss advanced options such as Spravato®, IM ketamine therapy, or TMS when clinically appropriate. Most importantly, I see our work as a partnership. My role is to guide, support, and provide expertise — but your voice, goals, and comfort matter just as much. My goal is not just symptom reduction, but long-term stability, clarity, and improved quality of life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation during our first appointment. We’ll take time to review your current symptoms, past mental health history, medical background, family history, lifestyle factors, and any previous treatments. I may ask structured diagnostic questions to ensure accuracy and to fully understand what you’re experiencing. My goal is to provide a clear diagnosis and develop a treatment plan tailored specifically to you. If medication is appropriate, we’ll discuss options in detail — including how they work, expected benefits, potential side effects, and what to realistically expect over time. I believe in conservative, thoughtful prescribing and ongoing monitoring to ensure both safety and effectiveness. Follow-up visits are focused and collaborative. We review your progress, symptom changes, side effects (if any), and overall functioning — including sleep, focus, mood stability, and anxiety levels. Adjustments are made strategically based on how you’re responding. While I primarily provide medication management, I also incorporate supportive therapy techniques and cognitive-behavioral strategies during sessions. I believe medication and practical coping tools often work best together. If more intensive psychotherapy is needed, I will coordinate care to ensure you have the right level of support. For patients with treatment-resistant depression or persistent symptoms, we can also evaluate whether advanced treatments such as Spravato®, IM ketamine therapy, or TMS are appropriate. Throughout the process, my priority is clear communication, individualized care, and helping you feel informed, supported, and empowered in your mental health journey.

More information on payments and coverage

We accept a variety of major insurance plans, and coverage may vary depending on your individual policy and benefits. Our team will do our best to verify your insurance prior to your appointment, but we always recommend that patients confirm coverage details directly with their insurance provider, including copays, deductibles, and any referral requirements. If your plan is out-of-network or you prefer not to use insurance, we also offer self-pay options. Payment is typically collected at the time of service, and we accept most major credit and debit cards. For patients receiving specialized treatments such as Spravato® (esketamine), IM ketamine therapy, or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), our staff will help review eligibility, insurance authorization requirements when applicable, and provide clear information about any potential out-of-pocket costs before treatment begins. Our goal is to make the financial process as transparent and straightforward as possible so you can focus on your care. If you have any questions about coverage, payments, or treatment costs, our office team is happy to assist you.
