Getting to know Dr. Connor Belson

I work best with individuals seeking a long-term, collaborative treatment relationship. You may be open to understanding your mental health more clearly, learning about treatment options, and staying actively engaged in your care. You might be looking for a provider who can thoughtfully integrate medication management with psychotherapy, rather than treating them as separate tracks. Your mental health concerns may feel like barriers to personal, academic, or professional goals, and you’re looking for support that helps you better understand yourself, clarify priorities, and move forward with intention and steady support. I treat mood, anxiety, trauma-related, substance use, bipolar, and psychotic disorders, including complex and co-occurring presentations. My approach integrates medication management with CBT, psychodynamic, and supportive psychotherapy. When another approach is a better fit, I work with you to coordinate care and adjust the treatment plan to align with your goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I enjoy providing psychiatric care to individuals with a wide range of mental health diagnoses and have extensive experience from residency training working with individuals with depressive and anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, psychotic disorders, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, and substance use disorders. My treatment approach focuses on collaboration. I provide individualized, holistic care to my patients by helping them first identify their treatment goals and then incorporate the interventions that best align with those goals, which might include a combination of psychotherapy, lifestyle interventions, medication management, and other treatment modalities as needed. I also incorporate education into my patient care and finds it to be a significant tool to help empower my patients in their medical care and treatment planning. I incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy and psychodynamic approaches into the psychotherapy I provide during patient appointments.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach to working with clients starts with collaboration. I see treatment as something we build together, not something I prescribe from a distance. Early on, I focus on understanding what someone is experiencing and, just as importantly, what they want to change. We spend time identifying clear treatment goals so that the work we’re doing feels aligned and purposeful. From there, I take an individualized and holistic approach. Depending on the person, that may include a combination of psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, medication management, and other interventions that best support their goals. I draw from cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic approaches in therapy, tailoring how we work based on what seems most useful for that individual. Education is also a central part of my process. I want clients to understand what’s going on and why we’re taking a particular approach. My goal is for people to feel informed, empowered, and actively involved in their own care rather than just following recommendations. Throughout the process, I’m continually adjusting based on how things are evolving, making sure the treatment stays relevant and responsive to the person in front of me.
