Cynthia Baxter, NP

Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
FL
Hi there, I'm Cynthia! Hi there! My name is Michelle Baxter, I am a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner and I see patients for mental wellness. I have been a nurse for many years and pursued my passion to help more patients overcome the stigma of mental disorders. I listen to patient problems and work with patients to develop the best treatment, backed by research and proven outcomes. My approach I provide patient-centered care by listening to what is most important to each patient. I treat patients, not their diagnosis. I incorporate mindfulness, nutrition, exercise, and whole-body wellness for optimum improvement. My focus I am comfortable treating patients with ADHD, anxiety and panic disorder, depression, mood disorders, psychosis, PTSD, and insomnia. I treat adolescents to geriatric patients and I am comfortable working with veterans. My communication style I have a casual yet respectful style. I like to hear what my patients have experienced, both good and bad, and try to get to the root problem. Often patients have been misdiagnosed or their concerns have been dismissed and I want them to feel at ease. My journey to mental healthcare Years of nursing, first in the ICU setting, then as a hospital supervisor, opened my eyes to the expansive need for mental health providers. We all have mental health needs when they are not met, they can exacerbate physical illnesses. I sought education to allow me to truly make a difference and my reward is helping patients live, not just exist. My goals for you I work with patients for what is most important to them to improve. Whether it's to feel more balanced or not feel so sad, we work together to determine measurable, achievable goals with flexible timelines. My first session with you Patients should expect that I make them comfortable and that they are being treated as a person, not a mental health diagnosis. They may have a mental health diagnosis but that does not define who they are as a person.
