“Dr. Young is wonderful. She is curious, empathetic, direct, and a critical thinker. She has helped me gain profound insights that I never could have gained alone. It’s a lovely bonus that she has an office for in person visits, which is so hard to find these days! Highly recommend!!”

Getting to know Dr. Dale Young

Just a couple of things to note: I am an out-of-network provider, meaning I do not accept insurance directly. I provide more information about how this works in the "insurance section." Following your scheduling with me, I will call or email you within about a day to discuss your interest or concern, and I ask that you return my call or email promptly (within 2 days). I'll confirm your appointment after our brief conversation. However, if we are unable to connect, I may be unable to confirm your appointment. Dale Young is a psychologist in Boston with over 30 years of experience. She earned her PsyD from William James College and holds a master's degree in public health from Yale University. Dr. Young is trained in a number of different approaches and sees a wide variety of patients. Her clinical interests focus on psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy with individuals and couples. Her consultation with you will include understanding your particular problem and discussing how to approach resolving it. Dr. Young has also been involved in numerous writing and research projects and continues to teach new clinicians in the practice and theory of psychotherapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style and therapy approach is oriented to you. In the first couple of sessions we will begin to name and understand the problems you are experiencing. From there we will consider the ways to approach addressing these issues. My orientation is psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, principally.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session begins with listening to you and what is on your mind. I am an active psychotherapist and will converse with you, as well as listen. I do believe the adage that "it takes another mind to know oneself". I will on occasion probe, suggest, sometimes interpret, and create a space where we can discover together your psychologic process, including your strengths as well as experiences that may be difficult for you and that you do not feel go well, or that you feel you did not handle well.

She is very easy to talk to and I look forward to a long relationship with her.
Dr. Young is wonderful. She is curious, empathetic, direct, and a critical thinker. She has helped me gain profound insights that I never could have gained alone. It’s a lovely bonus that she has an office for in person visits, which is so hard to find these days! Highly recommend!!
I’ve been seeing Dr. Young for a little over three years now (originally in-person and now remotely). I was very nervous about starting therapy and quickly felt comfortable with Dr. Young, who is compassionate, empathetic, and insightful. She’s helped me to identify and unpack complicated dynamics in some of my relationships as well as explore issues relating to confidence in my identity. She’s always been accommodating of scheduling issues and has made herself available to speak in emergency situations. I would highly recommend Dr. Young to anyone!
I've been a patient of Dr. Young's for about 3-4 years, and in that time she's helped me work through so many of my issues stemming from my childhood and family dynamic. I am now able to recognize how many of my thoughts and behaviors connect to negative experiences from my childhood. Dr. Young helped me develop strategies to redirect unhelpful thoughts/ behaviors and cultivate boundaries that better serve me. With her guidance, my relationships with family, friends, and my spouse are healthier, more realistic, and fulfilling. I also find that I'm a more confident person now, and feel ready to tackle an intense, demanding career change. I fully recommend reaching out to Dr. Young and exploring any roadblocks to growth you may be facing.
From the start of my sessions with Dale she has been an excellent Therapist and has continued to do so as we transitioned from in person meetings to remote based. We have been meeting each week for 5 years now and I have always felt that Dale has given me her full attention by listening and responding to my stories with her professional insight. I highly recommend anyone looking for a Therapist to reach out to Dale.
I have been Dr Young’s patient since 2015. Throughout the years, Dr Young has been exceptionally helpful with her insights. She has also been open to learn different cultural perspectives that might impact a person’s psyche, which is crucial to the overall understanding and wellbeing of a person.
Dr. Young has been tremendous - I have been a patient for over six years and she has been far and away the best therapist I have worked with in my experience. She is compassionate and insightful, ensuring that I never get complacent or 'stuck' on my journey for growth.
Dr. Young is fantastic. She listens carefully and offers well-thought feedback and guidance. She has really helped me over the past few months.
I have really enjoyed working with Dr. Young. I look forward to our sessions because Dr. Young has such wonderful insights and helpful commentary. I have seen a vast improvement in my depression since I started seeing her regularly.
Dale is great! But two qualities make her stand out - her honesty and her authenticity. She is up front about making sure that she is the right doctor for her patients, something no one should take for granted. And she's genuinely authentic, not masking emotions. Highly highly recommend her.

She was extremely welcoming and really helped me even in just one visit. She made me think about myself and my life in ways I never had before, and that was after only one hour with her. I look forward to seeing where my time with her will take me, and would highly recommend her to anyone.
I started seeing Dr. Dale again after a three year break. (Previously I had been a client for roughly four years). Not only was I amazed at the details that she remembered but also of all the details I'd forgotten that I had shared with her. She has always been prompt to call back and flexible with scheduling appointments in order to help meet my needs. At times when I needed more support she detected this and added extra appointments as needed. Her calm demeanor and welcoming atmosphere makes it easy to open up, also making my transition back into therapy seamless. Over the five years totally that I have been a client of Dr. Dale she has always remained professional, welcoming and insightful.

Dr. Dale Young seems really great and I am excited to keep visiting with her! After a first appointment I can genuinely recommend her.
Dale Young is hands-down the best therapist I've ever had—and I say this with some considerable experience (virtual client expertise!), having worked majorly (long-term: 2+yrs) with 2 psychotherapists, and 2 short-term therapists (1-5 visits). Dr. Young is not one to indulge in her own revelations, or in her own persona, but remarkably stays focused (and keeps the client) on their feelings & perspectives. I have been with Dr. Young weekly for now 2.3 years, and I have experienced remarkable progress never experienced or imagined, being an obviously "complicated situation." I never thought to see this much change in 2 years, and I can now see the "light at the end of the tunnel" that would conclude formal therapy for me (finally). Moreover, at nearly 60 myself, she does not make one feel that they cannot change more, if they want to! My suggestions would be that, if you don't think she would work out for you in the first few visits, you might still do well to stick it out till about 10 or so. Her skill comes thru in long-term, unexpected ways, producing for one a remarkable -looking back, and forward! If you're into real person-to-person therapy, and not merely pharmaceuticals of these days, I recommend her wholeheartedly. R.D.
I've been a patient with Dr. Young for quite a while now. My visits are always insightful, and never feel that she will be judgemental of the personal thoughts I need to share.
I have been seeing Dr. Young for over a year and the treatment with her has been really effective. She is very patient and worked first to get to know me and the root of my issues to best help me in the long run. Dr. Young is very communicative about any potential change and is open to any questions or suggestions I have about my treatments.
