Dr. Daniel Irby, MD

Psychiatrist
9171 Wilshire Blvd, Ste 500, Beverly Hills, CA
I'm a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in medication management for a wide range of mental health conditions. My goal is to understand you as a whole person — your history, your symptoms, and the goals you're working toward — and to build a treatment plan together. I believe good psychiatric care is collaborative, and I take the time to explain the reasoning behind each recommendation so that you can make informed decisions about your own care. I work with adolescents, transitional-age youth, and adults. My practice focuses on thoughtful, evidence-informed psychopharmacology for conditions including depression, anxiety, OCD, and related concerns. I pay close attention to finding the right medication and the right dose for each individual, monitoring both benefits and side effects and adjusting the approach as your needs change over time. In addition to medication management, I offer interventional treatments for patients who have not found sufficient relief through standard approaches. These include TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) for depression and OCD, as well as esketamine and IV ketamine for treatment-resistant depression. I'm glad to discuss whether any of these options might be a good fit as part of your overall plan. My background includes an MD through the UC Berkeley–UCSF Joint Medical Program and psychiatry residency training in San Mateo County. I've spent my career in outpatient psychiatry with a strong emphasis on psychopharmacology and interventional care, and I stay engaged with new developments in the field so that my patients benefit from current, well-supported treatments. I'm fluent in Portuguese and speak intermediate Spanish. Whether you're managing a long-standing condition, seeking a fresh evaluation, or looking for a second opinion on your current medications, my approach is careful, respectful, and attentive to your individual needs. I look forward to working with you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Please take note that I don't accept EAP; with that said, when we work together, my priority is to understand you as a whole person, not just a diagnosis. In our first visit, I'll ask about your history, your current symptoms, your goals, and what has and hasn't worked for you in the past. I want to hear your story in your own words, so expect a conversation rather than a checklist. This helps me tailor a medication plan that fits your life, not just your symptoms on paper. My practice focuses on medication management. I take an evidence-informed, collaborative approach to psychopharmacology for conditions such as depression, anxiety, and OCD. I believe you should understand the reasoning behind every recommendation, so I'll explain why I'm suggesting a particular medication, what benefits to expect, how long it may take to work, and what side effects to watch for. Decisions about your care are made together — I see my role as offering expertise and options, and yours as deciding what feels right for you. I pay close attention to detail and follow-up. Finding the right medication and dose is often a process, so I'll check in on how you're responding, adjust as needed, and make changes thoughtfully. If standard medications haven't given you enough relief, I can also discuss interventional options, including TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) for depression and OCD and esketamine or IV ketamine for treatment-resistant depression. You can expect me to be thorough, respectful, and unhurried. I welcome your questions, and I want you to feel comfortable being honest with me about how you're really doing, including any concerns about medications. I work with adolescents, transitional-age youth, and adults, and I'm fluent in Portuguese and speak intermediate Spanish. Whether you're starting treatment for the first time, managing a long-standing condition, or seeking a fresh perspective on your current medications, I look forward to working with you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Please take note that I don't accept EAP. Our first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, usually the longest visit we'll have together. I'll ask about your current concerns and symptoms, your mental health and medical history, any past medications and how you responded to them, your family history, and the goals you're hoping to reach. I also want to understand your daily life and what matters to you, since good treatment has to fit the person and not just the diagnosis. From there, we'll discuss my clinical impressions, talk through the available options, and decide together on a starting plan. My practice focuses on medication management. That said, our visits are never just a quick prescription hand-off. I take time to explain each recommendation — why a particular medication makes sense, what benefits to expect, how long it may take to work, and what side effects to watch for — so you can make informed decisions about your care. I see my role as offering expertise and options, and yours as deciding what feels comfortable for you. Follow-up visits are focused on how you're actually doing: whether the medication is helping, how you're tolerating it, and what adjustments might improve your results. Finding the right medication and the right dose is often a step-by-step process, so I check in carefully and make changes thoughtfully rather than rushing. Early in treatment, follow-ups tend to be more frequent; once you're feeling stable, we can space them out as appropriate. For patients who haven't found enough relief through standard medications, I can also discuss interventional options, such as TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) for depression and OCD, or esketamine and IV ketamine for treatment-resistant depression. Throughout, my style is collaborative, respectful, and unhurried. I welcome your questions and want you to feel comfortable being honest about how you're really doing, so we can adjust course together as your needs change.
