It's crucial to receive the correct diagnosis and treatment early on, as people are often misdiagnosed and given treatments that don't work. Dr. Gavito is well-trained in identifying the accurate diagnosis and applying evidence-based treatment. She also uses rating scales to identify symptoms and track progress. Dr. Gavito has received excellent training. She attended four years of medical school at Texas A&M University. Afterwards, she spent 3 years training in adult psychiatry at University of Texas in Galveston. She realized there was a serious shortage of psychiatrist that provided care to children, so she came to Lexington and spent two more years training specifically in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Kentucky. After graduating from her child psychiatry fellowship, she spent additional years training in psychotherapy. So her appointments have the added benefit of combining aspects of therapy with medication management. If a patient already has a therapist, Dr. Gavito believes it is important to collaborate with the therapist as part of a treatment team. She has had great success in getting patients better, even those with severe symptoms.
