Getting to know Dr. David Dixon

I am Dr. Dixon, a compassionate dual-boarded psychiatrist and addiction medicine specialist dedicated to enhancing the well-being of my patients. I earned my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine. With over 20 years of military service and extensive experience treating trauma-related conditions, my patients appreciate my honesty and directness. My approach combines evidence-based practices with personalized care: Psychotherapy Advocate: I firmly believe that understanding oneself is the cornerstone of healing. Through psychotherapy, I empower patients to explore their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, leading to lasting positive changes. Holistic Approach: As a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, my practice integrates the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit to promote comprehensive healing. Medications with Care: As a psychiatrist, I hold a strong belief in the judicious use of medications. While recognizing their value, my approach is to minimize reliance on pharmaceuticals whenever possible. Instead, I emphasize internal changes-psychotherapy, self-awareness, and holistic well-being-as essential components for my patients to achieve their optimum mental condition.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Our first consultation is conducted via our telehealth platform. If you would like to schedule an in-person visit, please indicate that on your intake paperwork, and we will set it up for the same appointment slot/time. During our initial visit, we’ll work together to assess your needs, explore available treatment options, and establish a therapeutic relationship. Our therapy style is psychodynamic with a focus on attachment and intersubjectivity, so be prepared for supportive challenges to your thought process. As psychiatrists, we can examine the medication options available for adjunctive treatment. (We do not prescribe controlled substances, even if you’re currently receiving them from another provider.) Our goal is to redefine wellness, finding joy and promoting healthier living through change; together. Initial appointments are 60 minutes, and follow-up appointments are 30, 45 or 60 minutes. We do not double book appointments. At this time, we are only able to accept self-pay patients. We can provide superbills that you may be able to submit to some insurance companies for reimbursement. (We are not in-network with any insurance companies. Medicare, Medicaid, and Tricare will not reimburse for any part of services provided.) A no-show without sufficient notice will result in a no-show fee.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session begins with a check-in to discuss your recent experiences and any important issues you’d like to address or revisit. We’ll also discuss your symptoms, their progression, and any new developments. If medications are part of your treatment, we’ll review them and consider any necessary adjustments, including discussing labs, side effects, etc. The remainder of the session will focus on relevant topics, which could range from current themes to past experiences. We may explore other treatment modalities like EMDR or CBT-I. One to three key points will emerge for deeper exploration as we move through the hour session, enhancing your understanding of yourself and your life. We end our sessions by summarizing anything pertinent to review at our next session and planning our next meeting time.

In-network insurances

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Initial session: $425 for 60 minutes
Ongoing session: $200-300 for 60 minutes

More information on payments and coverage

We can provide a superbill for services rendered if you would like to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. But note that we are out of network with all insurances.
