About Dr. David Gelbmann
Dr. David Gelbmann is a board certified (ABFAS & ABPM) podiatric physician and surgeon who specializes in treating all ailments of the foot, ankle and leg. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing who takes a special interest in the healing of complicated wounds of the lower extremity. His other areas of focus are treatment of chronic foot and leg pain, as well as sports medicine. He is om staff at Northwestern and Weiss Memorial hospitals.
Dr. Gelbmann is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with dual degrees in molecular biology and biology. He attended the Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine. Afterward, he completed an intense 3-year surgical residency at one of Detroit’s largest and busiest hospitals — St. John Hospital and Medical Center. While a resident, he performed 2-5 foot and ankle surgeries per day under the tutelage of over 40 of Detroit’s best foot and ankle doctors. Following residency, he settled in Vernon Hills, as an associate in a private practice, before he settled in Chicago.In his free time, Dr. Gelbmann enjoys running, softball, and spending time with his wife and young children. He also volunteers yearly in the medical tent at the Chicago Marathon and other Midwest running events.

The doctor is knowledgeable and friendly, however when I explained my concerns it felt like I was being provided with a one size fits all approach. Initially when the doctor came in, they were on their phone and nodding to what I was saying. Honestly, it didn’t seem like he was actually listening, taking me seriously, or too concerned, which did not leave a great impression.

Wow - what a great first impression. I needed a new podiatrist and Dr. Gelbmann came highly recommended, I love his energy - and the time and care he took with me. Dr.Gelbmann and his staff were all very kind, attentive, and informative. I received x-rays with a diagnosis and a plan right away. All of my physical conditions, surgery processes, and recovery were clearly explained.

The first appointment I was in the waiting area for 45 minutes and spent another 10 in the smaller room awaiting the doctor. The follow-up appointment I waited over 60 minutes past my scheduled appointment time in the lobby and still had not been seen. I would not recommend this office as they overbook and have extremely long wait times.

I have been searching for a podiatrist for a long time. I read over 100 reviews and looked up over 150 doctors. Dr. Gelbmann had great reviews and from what I read was excellent! I schedule an appointment the next day. I walked in the staff was very friendly and helpful. I did not wait long at all to see Dr. Gelbmann, maybe 10 minutes. Once he entered the room he was very nice, bedside manner was great, he listened to me, and took my pain seriously. He gave me options and was thorough on the procedure I needed. I felt safe, comfortable, and I knew I was in good hands. I will definitely be referring people here! Thank you!
