Dr. Gerst joined Mount Vernon Internal Medicine in 2021 after moving to Virginia from Detroit, Michigan with his wife, daughter, and two sons. Additionally, he trained with DMC cardiologists as part of a one-year coronary care unit (CCU) fellowship. Prior to his medical school training, Dr. Gerst was part of a research lab studying respiratory neuroplasticity, specifically the impact of intermittent hypoxia on patients with obstructive sleep apnea, and published papers in peer-reviewed journals.
