About Dr. David Gerst

Dr. Gerst joined Mount Vernon Internal Medicine in 2021 after moving to Virginia from Detroit, Michigan with his wife, daughter, and two sons. Since then he has been practicing at our Lorton location. Dr. Gerst is board certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Gerst completed his medical school training at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine with the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) at Detroit Receiving Hospital, Harper University Hospital, and Sinai Grace Hospital. Additionally, he trained with DMC cardiologists as part of a one-year coronary care unit (CCU) fellowship. Prior to his medical school training, Dr. Gerst was part of a research lab studying respiratory neuroplasticity, specifically the impact of intermittent hypoxia on patients with obstructive sleep apnea, and published papers in peer-reviewed journals.
