About Deborah Vaphides
For 18 years, Deborah has served Montclair and Essex County as a trusted acupuncturist, blending science, intuition, and innovation with deep empathy for her patients. In that time, she has helped thousands of Montclairians manage pain and anxiety, recover from neurological conditions such as stroke, Bell’s palsy, and concussions, and has supported the birth of more than 75 babies—some of whom are now her patients today.
Deborah began her practice when acupuncture was still considered an alternative or fringe medicine. There was very little academic research and only a few textbooks that described acupuncture as a means of unblocking Qi in the body. Deborah was not satisfied with lightweight mystical metaphors. What set her apart then, as now, was her curiosity, her passion for learning, and her desire to deliver quantifiable results. Her passion and evidence-based perspective led her to explore electrical acupuncture, a highly effective approach that has become central to her work.
Curiosity, compassion, and years of study now shape every part of her busy Montclair practice. I’ve been seeing Deb for acupuncture for over a year, and she’s amazing! She’s so intuitive and really takes the time to understand what’s going on in your life, not just your symptoms. She knows her stuff and uses different techniques to truly heal what’s going on.
I’ve seen her for jaw pain and shoulder pain, and she’s helped me through both. Acupuncture with Deb has also boosted my energy and balanced my menstrual cycle. Now I go to her for any new aches or pains and for immune support during cold and flu season to keep me feeling my best.
I’ve recommended Deb to friends and family, shes great and really cares about your wellbeing.

My first visit with Deborah at Equilibrium Acupuncture was a year ago. My sports doctor couldn’t fix my ankle problem; but Deborah did! I was just amazed.
I used her again this year to curb my sugar cravings. I was hooked on a daily chocolate habit and Deborah stopped it completely.
She also helped me with my two runs over the summer. Her magic touch/ the acupuncture loosened my tight calves.
I can’t rave enough about her.

Deborah Vaphides from Equilibrium Acupuncture is an amazing acupuncturist. She helped me with my neck pain and headaches from my spinal stenosis that my pain management doctor couldn’t help me with. After falling and fracturing my elbow, Deborah helped relieve the pain in my arm so I was able to move my arm more freely. I look forward to my acupuncture treatments with Deborah and I highly recommend her.

Deborah is amazing at what she does. She's helped me with nerve pain in my neck & back, aching in my shins & knees, and chronic tenosynovitis in my thumb. While I'm admittedly a little squeamish with needles, Deborah put me at ease and took the time to understand my issues and treat them accordingly. She's also a lovely person! Highly recommended.
