Getting to know Dr. Diane Lewis

Dr. Diane Lewis is an adult psychiatrist at Talkiatry. She is board certified in general psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She has been practicing for over eight years, and she has a special interest in college mental health. Her practice focuses on medication management. Typically, she offers this in conjunction with supportive therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Often, Dr. Lewis encourages additional therapy and asks that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. She received her undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. She then also earned her medical degree from Texas A&M University in College Station and Temple, TX before moving to Austin to complete her general psychiatry residency at UT Southwestern - Austin Programs, now part of the Dell Medical School residency programs. After completing training she stayed in Austin and had the privilege of spending eight years working as a staff psychiatrist at the University of Texas' student counseling center. She has also worked in hospital admission and emergency department settings. Dr. Lewis has treated a large variety of mental health conditions across a variety of populations, but her primary focus has been college mental health. This has included treating a variety of conditions ranging from the simple to the complex in patients aged 18 to 45. She enjoys getting to know her patients and considering their concerns within the context of their entire lives, recognizing and emphasizing that a person may have a diagnosis but IS not that diagnosis. Her patients value her authenticity, compassion, and down-to-earth style and have consistently thanked her for taking the time to truly listen to them.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

Diane was very friendly and also "real" in a way that I find a lot of therapists/psychiatrists are not. Her consultation didn't feel patronizing as I listed my issues or talked about myself, but she also wasn't completely removed. She is a very friendly and charismatic doctor!

She was very compassionate, prompt, and listened to me. She had the compassion that I had not previously seen in a psychiatrist.
