About Dr. Donald Siegel

Dr. Siegel graduated with honors from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California. He earned his Doctor of Optometry from the University of California, Berkeley, where he received awards for clinical excellence and research and was honored as valedictorian. He began his career in private practice optometry in Walnut Creek, CA. He then joined Pilkington Barnes Hind as a clinical researcher developing new soft contact lens products. Later, he became a senior optometrist in the University of California San Francisco Department of Ophthalmology, specializing in difficult-to-fit contact lenses for infants born with cataracts and adults with keratoconus and corneal transplants. He also managed multiple research studies within the department. Dr. Siegel was recruited by Bausch and Lomb as director of clinical research and product development for gas permeable and soft contact lenses. Many of the products he helped develop continue to generate millions in revenue. He has been an invited speaker at the Academy of Optometry in the U.S. and China, the British Contact Lens Association, and numerous professional meetings across the U.S. In 2003, he founded Sun City Eye Care, a medical optometry practice caring for patients with diabetes, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and ocular emergencies. He maintained his research interests as Director of Clinical Affairs at CooperVision and collaborated with Keeler Vision on glaucoma instrumentation.
