Getting to know Donna Felkins-Dohm
I have been a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for 29 years, working in a variety of settings, including 10 years in the VA Dual Diagnosis program. I earned my Bachelor's degree from Saint Leo University and my Master’s in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from the University of South Florida. No matter what role I am in, I bring my compassion for the human spirit, commitment to helping people, acceptance of diversity, and sense of humor. My treatment focus is the utilization of therapy and medication management for individuals with depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, dual diagnosis, and addictions. I see us as a team, working together to explore challenges and problem-solve for the future.
As a mental health provider, I see the whole person in front of me. My primary goals are always centered on empowerment—to help you make changes in your life, become healthier, and find more meaning. Efforts will focus on challenging negative patterns of thinking and behaviors, problem-solving, goal-setting, and discovering your inner strengths.

What should a new client know about working with you?
I want to know what you are seeking to change and I expect you to participate in your therapy. This is your time and I want you to gain the most you can from it. I often use assignments to enhance assessment, self-exploration, and education.
I appreciate a sense of humor, so don't hold back, BE yourself!
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Our first session is a Psychiatric Evaluation which is a diagnostic interview with lots of questions about your history. It will give direction to therapy and also to any need for medication, as well as begin exploring what brought you into treatment. After this session, we will have much more time to talk freely about the directions you are wanting or needing to focus on.

I use a third party Biller who handles all my billing. At this time, I am credentialed with Medicare, Aetna, Cigna, and United Health Care. I am also approved by BCBS with an eligibility date of 6/9/25. Both Tricare and Medicaid are dangling but should come through very soon.

I subsequently realized that I could schedule an appointment with a psychiatric nurse, and Donna was the one. She possesses exceptional knowledge, patience, and flexibility in addressing patient needs.
