What began as a practical suggestion quickly became a deeply meaningful vocation. Before entering psychiatric practice, Dorothea spent nearly a decade as a Trauma ICU nurse. Those years shaped her clinical perspective and gave her a close view of vulnerability, resilience, and the effects of trauma. The experience taught her to remain steady in crisis, listen deeply, and approach each individual with compassion and respect. It now forms the foundation of her trauma-informed approach and understanding of how past experiences can shape present realities. Dorothea values the opportunity to connect with clients authentically. She asks thoughtful questions to understand each person’s concerns, history, circumstances, and goals. Her collaborative approach is grounded in curiosity, kindness, and respect, creating a space where clients can speak openly without fear of judgment. She works alongside them to identify patterns, consider new perspectives, and better understand their emotional well-being. Raised on a farm, Dorothea spent her childhood caring for animals and daydreaming in open fields. These experiences taught her responsibility, independence, compassion, and perseverance. Outside of her practice, Dorothea prioritizes time with her family. She enjoys reading, nature documentaries, caring for her plants, meditating, and exploring how nutrition and whole-body wellness can support mental health.
