Getting to know Edyn Butts Mckinnon

My name is Edyn McKinnon. I received my Associate of Science Degree from South Georgia State College in 2009. I then went to Georgia Southern University, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After working as a nurse for several years, I decided I wanted to do more, so I pursued my Family Nurse Practitioner degree. I have worked in psychiatry for the past seven years as a Family Nurse Practitioner. In July 2021, I graduated with my Post-Master's Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Valdosta State University. I will soon be starting back to obtain my DNP. When I started working in psychiatry, it became my passion. I work with individuals from age 6 through geriatrics. I have had the pleasure of working on several inpatient crisis stability units for adult patients ages 18 to 55, as well as geriatric units for patients 55 and older. I also worked in a private practice setting for the past three years, which I recently left because I felt it was time to move out more on my own. I have come to realize that when you love what you do, it no longer truly feels like work. I would love to work with you to formulate a treatment plan that is appropriate for you. I believe it is important for me as a provider to involve patients in this process, as this leads to the best outcomes. I don't want to be the provider who just prescribes pills-I want to be the provider who actively listens and, with your help, creates the right treatment plan together. One of my favorite compliments from past patients is that I actively listen and make them feel human, something others had not done before. I am here for you. Let's do this.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Hope in knowing a positive change is on the way. I want to insure to my patients that they have been actively heard and fully listened to. I want my patients to know that I am a provider that cares greatly and strives fully to make a positive impact on their lives for new beginnings and positive changes. With telehealth, we try to make it easily accessible so every individual can make scheduled appointments, even without leaving their homes. We understand that each individual’s condition is unique. For this reason, we individualize our services so we can understand and address their symptoms with the context of their personal experiences, perceptions, and other factors.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

I would recommend Dr. McKinnon to absolutely ANYONE who is seeking assistance. She listened to my concerns, showed empathy with my situation, and gave me the medication I was previously prescribed to help with my anxiety. She is extremely easygoing, and you can tell she truly cares about her patients. I will most definitely continue using her- Dr. McKinnon is truly amazing.

I love working with Edyn! I had been on a medication for 5 years that stopped working for me and she switched me to something that I'm doing much better on. She helped me with the process of switching medications and tapering off of on and onto another with plenty of follow-ups so we could monitor how the medication was affecting me. She explained everything about the medication in a lot of detail so I felt really prepared to make the switch and I've been seeing a lot of positive results from it. Edyn is super kind and asks a lot of helpful questions. She really listens to your experience with your medication and she has a great attitude.

So she prescribed medication for my daughter but only a month. We were not able to book and her next available was was after the medication had depleted. The pharmacy was trying to contact her and she didn't respond. Anyone who is on a psychiatric medication knows that you shouldn't stop it cold. She should have at least responded with another 30 days and an email to say we needed to book an appt for her to fill additional scripts.
