Dr. Emily Watts, MD

Psychiatrist
MD
I am privileged to specialize in psychiatry with a focus on reproductive psychiatry, addressing mental health challenges throughout the female life cycle, particularly during key transitions like pregnancy and menopause. My journey began with a Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology degree from Emory University, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude. I continued at Emory for my Medical Degree, followed by a residency in general adult psychiatry at NYU Langone, New York, and dual fellowships in Reproductive Psychiatry and Public Psychiatry at NYU / Bellevue Hospital. My academic pursuits included researching the neurodevelopmental mechanisms of psychopathology from undergraduate through medical training. During residency, I participated in an academic research year at Stanford University involved studying the effects of intergenerational stress and trauma on mood and anxiety disorders. Throughout this time, I have co-authored several peer reviewed articles on anxiety, depression, ADHD, substance use and more. I currently teach and mentor at New York University School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry, striving to integrate clinical practice with teaching. My leadership roles include founding member of the UNICEF NextGen Global Principals board and active participation on the UNICEF USA Mid-Atlantic board and the Stanford Center on Longevity Advisory Council, advocating for global women’s and children's health and well-being. Additionally, I am involved with the North American Society of Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Marcé of North America Perinatal Mental Health Society, and the International Marcé Society for Perinatal Mental Health, promoting advances in perinatal mental health care. *Please note, I do NOT typically prescribe controlled substances without a longterm relationship and full commitment to a treatment plan that we both agree on, thus it is unlikely that I will prescribe controlled substances on our first appointment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

To provide enhanced care and ensure availability, I limit the number of patients I work with. This allows me to offer flexible and prompt scheduling for both initial evaluations and follow-up appointments. I am also available between visits to address any concerns via phone calls and emails. To maintain the highest level of personalized treatment, I do not accept insurance. However, I will provide a medical receipt for you to submit for out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance. Reimbursement rates vary by plan, so please contact your insurance provider to inquire about reimbursement rates for the following codes: Initial Evaluation - CPT code: 92203 + 90838 Follow-up appointment - 45 minutes - CPT codes: 99213 + 90836
