Getting to know Dr. Gary Liu

Frustrated by many UNCLEAR diagnoses or even knowing WHY you’re taking those medications? We provide you the expertise (UPENN trained, graduated MD with honors, doctorate in neuroscience, and years of teaching experience) for accurate diagnoses, evidence-based treatment, and time for education. We want you to be experts in your mental health. I’m responsive (can be reached directly via phone calls or our HIPAA compliant messaging) and flexible (same day or after-hours appointments usually available). I LOVE working with care teams including family members and providers (including therapists). Although I’m trained across numerous settings (VA, Emergency, Consult, Community, and a wide variety of Specialty Outpatient Clinics), I especially enjoy treating neurodivergent populations (ADHD, Autism), anxiety (OCD, performance, avoidance, perfectionism), depression (both unipolar and bipolar), and trauma (including PTSD).

I had an incredibly meaningful session today. Dr Liu didn’t just focus on surface-level symptoms. He took the time to really walk through my entire life story with me, connecting past experiences to what I’m dealing with now in a way that finally made things feel clearer and more understandable. He explained treatment strategies in detail and helped me understand what I can start doing right away to support my own healing. I left the appointment feeling heard, understood, and hopeful. It felt like I’m not just being treated, but truly being guided through a thoughtful plan built around me as a person. This was one of the most impactful and supportive psychiatric sessions I’ve ever had.

Dr. Liu is an amazing Psychiatrist! He was very easy to talk with, explained his entire thought process on the decisions he was making, and made sure to answer every single question I had. I left every meeting feeling confident about the care I was receiving, and it was reassuring knowing why he chose the treatment that he did. I cannot recommend him enough!

What a professional Psychiatrist! Dr. Liu was exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate his professionalism and expertise to diagnose and help me with my current issues. Thank you so much!
Dr. Liu was extremely kind, caring, knowledgeable, and thorough. He was so on top of it following up with me about insurance information and medications. He also walked me through what the process looks like for getting important prescriptions and prior authorizations. Dr.Liu is a great listener and clearly cares about his patients and what is best for them. I had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend him !
Gary is awesome! He is really in touch with his patient needs and continously is working to better understand what their issues are and finding solutions that work best for them. He is dynamic in his field and provides a level of support that is unparelled to anyone I have seen! 10/10 would reccomend visiting his practice.
Dr. Liu is the best! Super easy to talk to, genuinely cares, and helps me stay on track. He responds quickly to patient messages and is always super helpful. Highly recommend!
Dr. Liu is a compassionate, insightful, and refreshingly candid psychiatrist who had a notable impact on my well-being. Through thoughtful medication management and personalized sessions that explored some of my long-term challenges, I began to understand myself in new ways and felt a greater sense of control. And over the course of our work together, real changes began to take place in my life—especially in areas that had previously felt stuck or overwhelming. I’m feel grateful to have found him.
I think very highly of Dr. Liu. He is an excellent psychiatrist; he is personable and puts you at ease immediately and he takes the time to talk with you and help work through issues even if it runs over your scheduled time. He takes a personal interest in you and goes out of his way to help. For example, one time he wanted me to get a blood test and I wasn't sure where the lab was. He took the time to walk with me to the lab several blocks away and waited with me until they saw me. When I started with him he evaluated my medications fairly quickly and made changes which have helped me quite a bit, and he continuously monitors my condition and discusses any changes with me at length. All-in-all I rate him most highly and would recommend him to anyone.
