Getting to know Dr. Geeta Nathan

Hi, I’m Dr. Geeta Nathan—it's a pleasure to meet you. If you’re looking for a more thoughtful, personalized approach to mental health care—beyond quick medication visits—I offer a space for deep listening, meaningful connection, and collaborative treatment. I am a board-certified psychiatrist licensed in Virginia, providing confidential telepsychiatry and in-person visits for adults. As a solo provider, I offer both psychotherapy and medication management, allowing for continuity and a more integrated care experience. Medication is always approached thoughtfully—as one option among many, not the sole focus of treatment. My approach blends traditional psychiatry and psychopharmacology with an integrative, heart-centered approach and psychotherapy. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and life transitions, as well as those seeking deeper personal or spiritual understanding. Care may include psychotherapy, mindfulness-based practices, lifestyle support, and, when appropriate, medication. I believe each person’s story matters. My role is to listen carefully, help identify the root of distress, and support you in building lasting clarity, balance, and well-being. If you’re seeking a psychiatrist who will truly listen and partner with you in your care, you’re in the right place.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients can expect a collaborative, thoughtful, and individualized approach to care. I take time to understand your full story—not just symptoms—so that treatment feels aligned with your goals, values, and overall well-being. Please note a few important practice policies: 1. I do not accept Medicare or Medicaid. 2. I do not prescribe controlled substances (including stimulants, benzodiazepines, or similar medications). 3. Services are provided via telehealth and in-person to adult patients located in Virginia. Appointments are typically longer than standard psychiatric visits, allowing space for both psychotherapy and medication discussions when appropriate. My approach prioritizes depth, consistency, and a strong therapeutic relationship. If you identify yourself as the "worried well" and are seeking care that emphasizes insight, connection, and a balanced approach to mental health, we may be a good fit.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The process begins with a comprehensive initial evaluation, where we explore your current concerns, history, and goals in depth. To make the most of our time together, a detailed intake packet is required and must be completed at least 24 hours prior to your first appointment. This allows us to focus more meaningfully on your needs during the session itself. From there, we develop an individualized treatment plan that may include psychotherapy, lifestyle and behavioral strategies, and, when appropriate, medication. Treatment is collaborative and evolves over time based on your needs and progress. Follow-up sessions are typically scheduled regularly to provide continuity, deepen insight, and adjust the treatment plan as needed. My goal is to create a consistent, supportive space where meaningful and lasting change can occur.
