About Dr. Gene Tekmyster
Gene Tekmyster, DO, believes that the goal of treatment should be optimization and return of pre-injury function. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Touro University and completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Saint Michael's Medical Center. Dr. Tekmyster then completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Saint Vincent Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Sports Medicine at OSS Health. As a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician (physiatrist), he is double board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and in sports medicine. His specialties include advanced interventional spine care, regenerative treatments, and sports medicine.
In demand as a speaker nationally and internationally, Dr. Tekmyster has widely published and presented on spine and sports medicine topics. His laboratory is studying the use of stem cells and other small biologic molecules for treatment of musculoskeletal disease. The ultimate goal is to develop novel therapies to manage pain and disability associated with rotator cuff tears and early osteoarthritis.
Dr. Tekmyster serves as a physician consultant for the Los Angeles Kings professional hockey team and USC Trojans Athletic Medicine, and he is the team physician for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard teams.
He enjoys outdoor activities, especially cycling and hiking with his family. He is also an avid weight lifter and holds weight lifting coaching certifications.

The Dr saw me for 2 minutes. Did not care to explain anything. Did not provide a way to follow up. I had to chase his office to ask a question. He is not responsive and accessible.

There is something reassuring about a provider that can immediately diagnose a problem, correctly, and provide a clear guideline of next steps. Dr. Tekmyster is exactly that person.
I've seen Dr. Tekmyster twice now - one for a back strain, the other for a tendon damage. I had spoken with a physical therapist who had the right sense of what was going on, but Dr. Tekmyster was able to quickly clarify and analyze everything within minutes.
He doesn't recommend invasive treatment unless the patient really pushes for it.
I was actually referred to him by another ortho at the practice who I really respect and operated on my knee.
Also the office is super well run.
