George Khamis, MA

Psychologist
MI
I have ave a background in neuroscience and psychology from Kalamazoo College and a master’s in counseling psychology from Wayne State University. I’m currently completing my doctorate in clinical psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies. My passion is working with people who are looking for something deeper from therapy. I bring a warm, grounded presence to my work, combining evidence-based therapies like CBT, ACT, and psychodynamic therapy with more holistic approaches, including somatic therapy and polyvagal theory. I specialize in neurodiversity-affirming care and support individuals navigating ADHD, Autism, anxiety, depression, trauma, and relational challenges. My approach is rooted in honoring each person’s complexity and unique story. I believe in working with the whole person—not just reducing symptoms, but addressing the underlying patterns and experiences that shape our lives. My goal is to help you move toward meaningful, lasting change in a way that feels authentic and empowering. Currently, I primarily provide intake sessions for new clients at Michigan Wellbeing Therapy Clinic. In these sessions, we’ll take time to explore what’s bringing you in, reflect on your goals, and determine what kind of therapeutic support will be the best fit. I then thoughtfully match clients with one of our skilled therapists based on your unique needs and preferences. I’m also available for consultations if you’re looking for guidance on next steps in your mental health journey. Clients often come to our clinic when they’re looking for more than surface-level coping strategies. If you’re seeking therapy that honors your depth and your day-to-day realities, we’re here to help. We also work closely with trusted psychiatrists and prescribers in the community, and I’m happy to offer referrals for medication support when needed. Whether you’re just beginning your therapeutic journey or returning after time away, we're here to help.

What should a new client know about working with you?

People often share that they feel safe and deeply understood in our work together. I strive to meet each person as a whole human being—not just a diagnosis or a problem to fix. My style is warm, collaborative, and grounded. I bring curiosity, compassion, and presence into each session, and I’ll also gently challenge you when it supports your growth. Therapy with me is not one-size-fits-all; I take time to understand your story, your patterns, and your lived experiences so that we can co-create a space that feels meaningful, supportive, and effective for you. At Michigan Wellbeing, I typically meet with clients for an initial intake session to help explore what’s bringing you in, clarify your goals, and identify the best path forward. This first session gives us time to explore not only your symptoms or current concerns, but also your identity, life story, relationships, and previous therapy experiences. From there, I help ensure that you’re thoughtfully matched with a therapist on our team whose style and expertise best align with your needs. If it feels like a particularly strong fit, we may also consider continuing our work together. My clinical background is rooted in integrative, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity-affirming care. I often work with individuals navigating ADHD, Autism, anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, burnout, and identity or relationship challenges. Whether we continue working together or I match you with someone else on our team, your care will reflect the same depth-oriented, holistic approach. Our work may involve building executive functioning skills, supporting nervous system regulation, exploring relational dynamics, or understanding and integrating different parts of the self. I draw from psychodynamic therapy, somatic practices, Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed work, and Polyvagal Theory to support healing on multiple levels—mind, body, and nervous system.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We’ll begin with a thoughtful, in-depth intake process designed to understand the full scope of who you are—not just your current symptoms or concerns, but your life story, identity, background, relationships, and previous experiences in therapy. This first session creates space to reflect on what’s bringing you in and what kind of support would be most helpful for you moving forward. Based on your needs and preferences, I’ll either continue working with you or help match you with one of the experienced clinicians on our team whose approach aligns well with your goals. Depending on what you’re seeking, therapy at our clinic may draw from several modalities and be highly integrative in nature. Our team blends approaches such as: • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you build practical tools, regulate thoughts and emotions, and move toward the life you want • Psychodynamic Therapy to bring awareness to unconscious patterns, past wounds, and relational dynamics that may be influencing you today • Somatic Therapy and Polyvagal-informed work to support nervous system regulation, help your body process trauma, and foster a greater sense of safety and connection from the inside out • Family Systems Therapy and Parent Coaching when working with families, children, or caregivers who need support navigating roles, boundaries, and emotional development • Parts work and Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed practices to help you understand and integrate the different parts of yourself—especially those tied to trauma, self-criticism, or protective strategies—allowing for greater internal harmony and self-leadership The integration of these approaches means therapy at Michigan Wellbeing is never limited to one lens. Instead, we tailor the work to reflect your unique needs, identity, and goals.
