Getting to know Dr. Gregory Sayer

Dr. Sayer is a board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist who specializes in diagnosing and treating patients struggling with mental health symptoms. He utilizes medication management and/or psychotherapy for treatment. Dr. Sayer understands that the best outcomes happen when patients and doctors work as a team. It is his mission to use his expertise, in combination with the unique characteristics of each patient, to empower patients to make meaningful progress in their lives.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed his residency in General Psychiatry at UCLA and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Columbia University Medical Center.
Dr. Sayer is experienced in cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, motivational enhancement, family therapy, and parent management training. He has special training in cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, panic, tic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. He has most recently published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry on ADHD medication. He has held faculty positions at NYU Langone, is on faculty at UCLA, and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

I highly recommend working with Dr. Sayer. My therapist said she had many successful experiences referring clients to him and that I should at least consider a consultation. I'm glad I reached out. He was non-judgmental, kind, wise, and collaborative. Working with Dr. Sayer has been a game changer for me.

I'm so grateful we found Dr. Sayer. We were really struggling to support our child and tried many things that either didn't seem to help or made things worse. Dr. Sayer's ability to work through the nuance and details while also seeing the larger picture impressed us. He's an excellent doctor and has helped our child (and family) thrive.

I was recommended to see Dr. Sayer by my old psychiatrist who was retiring. I was nervous about transitioning to a new doctor but it has been a blessing. I appreciate his comprehensive and thoughtful approach. I had always seen a psychiatrist for meds and a different provider for therapy but Dr. Sayer can do both and I've made more progress working with him than I have with other treatments over much longer timespans.

Dr Sayer was kind, courteous, professional and extremely caring. He made me feel comfortable right away. He spent quite a bit of time with me during our initial appointment and did not make me feel rushed at all. He asked smart questions and I felt as if he really got to know me. He made some insightful recommendations at the end of the visit and I am looking forward to meeting with him again in a month.

Dr. Sayer is always very professional and makes me feel comfortable opening up. I haven't had the best experiences getting professional help but working with Dr. Sayer has been a surprisingly positive experience. He's been able to understand my perspective and gives great advice.
If anyone is considering going to him for the first time, they definitely should. I'm extremely happy I made that decision and will continue to see him.
