Getting to know Dr. Grethel Perez Meek

I am a board-eligible psychiatrist who works with adults in both English and Spanish. I completed my psychiatry residency at Creighton University and earned my medical degree from Des Moines University.
In my practice, I take time to understand what you are experiencing, what has or has not worked for you before, and what you would like to get out of treatment. I want our visits to feel like a conversation where you can ask questions and tell me when something is not working for you.
I am thoughtful about medication and do not believe in making changes without a clear reason. When I recommend a medication, I explain why I am recommending it, what I hope it will help with, and what side effects or tradeoffs are worth considering. I want you to understand why we are choosing a particular treatment rather than simply being told what to take.
Therapy is also an important part of my visits. Along with discussing medications, we may spend time looking at patterns, stressors, coping strategies, and different ways of approaching difficult situations. I see medication and therapy as working together rather than as completely separate parts of treatment.
At your first visit, I will spend time getting to know you and reviewing your psychiatric and medical history, previous treatment, and current concerns. We will talk about what I think may be going on and discuss the options available to you. My goal is for you to leave with a better understanding of what we are treating and a clear plan for what comes next. From there, our visits are an ongoing conversation about what is getting better, what is still getting in the way, and whether we need to adjust our approach.
