Dr. Guang Xu, L.Ac., OMD, Ph.D., Dipl.Ac, is a nationally board-certified and Maryland-licensed Acupuncturist. Her practice areas include Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine.
Dr. Xu graduated from Heilongjiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in China in 1984 with a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine degree. After five years of studying and training in both Chinese and Western medicine, she practiced at a University Hospital as a physician of TCM (acupuncture, herbs, etc.) and Western medicine for 10 years. During this time, extensive training and experience in acupuncture, Chinese medicine, and herbs applied to different diseases allowed her to gain a broad knowledge base, clinical diagnostic and treatment skills, and the ability to confidently manage her clinical practice. She specializes in treating pain, stroke, women’s health, immune disorders, allergies, stress, depression, insomnia, and some nervous system diseases such as paralysis.
Starting in 1988, she studied ShuangJinHua (herbs) for their antibacterial effects and immune functions, earning First Place of the TCM Science Advanced Technology Award in Heilongjiang Province, China, in 1996. Dr. Xu earned her Ph.D. in Medicine from Kagawa University School of Medicine in Japan in 1998. Her thesis focused on macrolide antibiotics as immunomodulators regulating immune functions. During her studies in Japan, she also served as a TCM advisor for physicians incorporating TCM into their practice.
After moving to the US, Dr. Xu conducted medical research at Howard University School of Medicine for five years. Her work focused on neuroscience and pathology of Alzheimer’s disease, as well as studying effects of medications on food intake and weight management.

I had a lot of neck and shoulder pain and inflammation that I had for months. It caused sleeping problems and prevented me from doing chores and physical things almost completely. I felt a lot of pain relief after treatment and look forward to follow-up appointments with Dr. Xu.

This was my first experience with acupuncture. The office staff was very friendly and welcoming. The doctor was great at explaining the process and ease any fears I may have had.
