Heather is a busy person-just like the patients at Minnesota Women's Care. She is the mother of four boys, ranging in age from 26 to 7. (She laughs about sending out high school graduation announcements and birth announcements at the same time.) She was a teenager when she had her first son and was considered "elderly" when pregnant with her last. That experience has given her tremendous empathy and understanding for moms of all ages. Heather says she's been blessed to be in a close family. She loves spending time with her boys, family, friends, and long-time significant other. They get together every month or so for "Taco Night." Every year, they stay together in a lake home or cabin, choosing a new one each time. They love boating, tubing, waterskiing, campfires, and, of course, spending time together. Her career started as a nursing assistant right out of high school. She was drawn to the postpartum floor, the closest she could get to Labor and Delivery. When she went to nursing school, she absolutely LOVED the labor and delivery experience. After observing her first birth, she knew she wanted to continue her education and become a midwife. Heather earned her Master's in Midwifery from the University of Minnesota. Now, after 14 years in labor and delivery, she says the birth of a baby still excites her. Heather is a conscientious care provider who listens and responds to patients. We recently received this note from one of her patients: "Please send my sincere thanks to Heather for taking me seriously this morning, for treating me with respect and care, and also send a thank you to whoever scheduled my last-minute appointment at St. John's! Care like this is why I will keep coming back to your clinic." As our busy patients know, there isn't much "spare" time. When she can, she loves working out at the gym and running. She was training for the Twin Cities 10 Mile Run-and she did it, finishing in fine style.
