Kept insisting I had herpes because I was young with a rash near my mouth, despite me living a decidedly un-herpetic lifestyle. Wasn't interested in further tests when ostensibly diagnosing me with a lifelong illness. The rash cleared up on its own within a few days without me filling his antiviral prescription - decidedly not herpes.
Gave me a script for another issue virtually instantly so that was nice I guess, but truly one of my least pleasant interactions with US healthcare thus far.

After months of trying to schedule an appointment with local dermatologists—most of whom were booked out for several months—and following a very frustrating experience with another telehealth platform, I discovered Teladoc. I was able to secure a dermatology appointment within just two days. What I needed was a straightforward medication adjustment, and the entire experience was seamless. The dermatologist, Howard Kershenbaum, listened carefully, asked thoughtful and appropriate questions, and made a sound clinical decision. I was especially impressed by his familiarity with the insurance pre-authorization process, which he proactively addressed during the visit and saved me a great deal of time and frustration. I will absolutely be using Teladoc again in the future and would recommend it to friends and family without hesitation.

The doctor was very pleasant and was extremely helpful with my concerns. He did not push treatment but instead explained out what was needed. Gave me the choice of what I wanted to do. Over trying to force me into procedures.

This doctor was funny, but I would have talked to my dad for a lot cheaper if I wanted to be told to buy a razor for my face instead of dermaplaning because "women overcomplicate everything."
I got the prescription I needed though, so I guess that's nice.

While I was not seen by the doctor that was advertised, the doctor was good. At first, I felt a bit suspicious given this fact. However, they were very thorough with me.
I didn't like their system for setting up the virtual call. I had to copy paste a zoom ID and password. I imagine if I didn't have the zoom app on my computer I couldn't have made the call. They should send the link when you get the appointment, or have some better automated way to do it.

Guess i hit this clinic at the wrong time. this was move out day i was told. but why would the business sign have been taken off the exterior wall before they were gone?? I struggled to locate the office.
Staff were all nice and pleasant and helpful and Doc K was friendly and professional and i felt he did a thorough exam. but his white lab coat was filthy! what impression does this give to patients? his fingernails were dirty as well. this is not what i expect when visiting any healthcare professional.

I made my appointment for 5:30p a few days out. Early on the day of my appointment, I received an email requesting payment and stating that payment would allow the video link to be sent out and I went ahead and paid. At 5:30 there had been no email/text/correspondence at all and I had to call and email the office until about 5:45 when I got a text from the office stating the doctor was running behind. At 6:40, after some texting for updates, the admin at the office said I would be seen shortly but that the doctor still had another patient ahead of me. I requested a reschedule and fought hard, it was not enjoyable, to not be pushed 2 weeks. She was able to get me in 4 days later on a Saturday at 11am. I waited over an hour on that Saturday to be seen and was about to cancel when the doctor FaceTimed me directly rather than a controlled link. Overall the experience was 2/10 and I would not recommend this office to a new patient.

Dr. Kurshenbaum goes above and beyond for his patients. I needed a referral for a general surgeon and he literally walked me across the complex to Scripps and asked for a reputable surgeon to perform the procedure required. I've never before had a doctor go out of his way to personally make sure I got what I needed on his own time. He's an amazing human and great doctor!

My appointment was 50 minutes late. They ran my insurance wrong and had to charge me twice for co-pay. The doctor couldn’t find the tool (magnifying glass) he wanted to use. He didn’t wash his hands before seeing me. He had a bloody cut on his face and seems way too old to be practicing. Absolutely will not come back.

Although my appointment was scheduled with Dr. Howard Kurshenbaum, MD, I had the pleasure of being seen by Dr. Katia Alfaro during a video visit at Horizon Dermatology & Cosmetic Center. Despite the change in physician, Dr. Alfaro provided friendly and considerate care, demonstrating her expertise and genuine concern for my well-being.
However, it's worth noting that the wait time for the appointment was longer than expected, totaling 90 minutes. While this was a minor inconvenience, the quality of care received from Dr. Alfaro ultimately made the wait worthwhile. Overall, I appreciate the efficient service and compassionate approach of the staff at Horizon Dermatology & Cosmetic Center.

Dr. Howard is a genuinely nice man. He is sincere, personable, and empathetic in his interactions with his patients and staff. Although after examination he didn’t see anything too serious, he still took my concern seriously and provided a treatment plan. The office is also very open about pricing and insurance coverage, and let me know what cost to expect prior to accepting treatment. I would wholeheartedly recommend this doctor to anyone seeking treatment or diagnosis of a skin issue. Pro tip: he told me his favorite appointments are around 10am, so go then if that time works for you, too!
