Getting to know Dr. Hyunyoung Ellen Park

Here to help you. Psychotherapy, which has enduring impacts on our sense of self, has an enormous capacity to positively affect our lives, including feeling better, becoming open-minded, taking initiatives, and maintaining meaningful relationships. In addition, I believe that psychotherapy and psychoanalysis provide a rare opportunity to deeply understand and own oneself, getting to the heart of who we really are. This can be a very fulfilling, enriching, and humanistic task that is possible to complete. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Yeshiva University, a Master's in Cognitive Neuroscience from Vanderbilt University, and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware. During my clinical training, I worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings in New York City: the Bronx Psychiatric Center, SUNY Downstate Medical Center, the Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia University Medical Center, and Mount Sinai Hospital. I also completed an APA-accredited predoctoral internship at North Central Bronx Hospital. I undertook my postdoctoral training at Insight Psychology, LLC, the Contemporary Freudian Society, and Jacobi Medical Center.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Currently I work with highly motivated clients who are interested in receiving psychotherapy or psychoanalysis on a regular basis. Providing a safe place to discuss your feelings freely and promoting more joy in life are both my passion and my priority.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a clinical psychologist with a therapeutic approach that is empathetic, emotion-focused, process/relationship/insight-oriented, and person-centered, I consider my clients’ unique needs and tailor treatment plans individually. My clients have included adolescents and adults with diverse cultural backgrounds and presenting issues, including depression, anxiety, and relationship issues related to life stresses.
